fel pro Hi-Temp Rubber coated fiber

It's been a long time since I've changed valve cover gaskets and from what I remember they were flat and smooth on both sides. I'm about to replace my valve covers on my challenger with some org. valve covers I found. The gaskets I brought have a nice flat smooth side and the other side of gasket is not flat. What I need to know, does the nice flat smooth side of the gasket go on the head side or the valve cover side?
I'm thinking it would go on the side of the heads, but I just want to be sure.
I'd also like to know, should I use some rtv on valve cover side to hold this type of gasket or should I not use any sealer on them?

my guess is the nice flat side of gasket goes on the flat head side.
no RTV should be used on gaskets in general, but you can use some
sticky stuff to hold the gasket inplace on the valve cover, when bolting valve
cover to head.  Can pull on the gasket tabs when bolting, to make sure gasket
is in place.

The Moroso valve cover gaskets are supposed to be the best.

RTV is slippery. The below stuff works a lot better.

I would install the flat side against the cover & use RTV ultra black on that side with the rough side down toward the head surface

well, Chryco has more experience than me, but the time I used RTV where the cover gasket met the head,
the gasket squished out of place. I don't think any valve cover gasket manufacturers recommend any kinda sealant
with their gaskets, but I could be wrong.

I wrote the instructions for the Fel-Pro gasket sets...  worked as an applications engineer for FP for over 22 years and gave hundreds of tech seminars across the country for FP.    DO NOT use RTV!!! The gasket has tabs that fit and hold itself into the side cut openings of the cover... that's why they are there!  A quick-drying contact adhesive is the only type ever recommended (RTV is NOT a quick drying adhesive... its a filler of gap).

The gasket you have is intended for hi-heat applications, such as trucks, emergency vehicles, etc... and can be used for daily cars, as well.  There is also the same gaskt material FP made availabl for the B Mopars... their exhaust mflds are very close to the valve covers.

RTV welcomes and allows gaskets to slip out of position.. just like grease or vasoline.

The gasket can be installed either direction... its not directional, although the appearance is from the die-cut.
Autocross/road racers go in deeper... and come out harder!
