Yes the carb plate will work but make sure the manifold bolts are all in and tight. Also the carb bolts/studs need to be replaced with grade 8 bolts the proper length and tightened. If in doubt, use a load leveler device or a lifting chain bolted to opposite corners. Better to be safe so use whichever method you are most comfortable with.

Par for the course.  Put a load leveling spreader bar on it  started going up and bolt popped out of the head.  Maybe I shouldn't be bolting to aluminum heads?

It is a 5 speed.   I think the trans is not able to come up because the rear of it is pushed all the way to the floor on tail end to get drive line angles right.

Can you pull the trans off first then lift out the engine?

Got sort of a problem now.  The car is in the driveway.  A brick paver drive in a very deed restricted neighborhood.  Not supposed to have a broke down car in the driveway.  It is a resort community and virtually no one around right now.  Drive way is slanted slightly.  Had the car on a lift in side the garage pulled everything off then pushed it in the drive and put car cover on it.  Nobody would no its not running or wouldn't pay attention to it.  So I was going to pull the motor today put in the garage on a pallet and cover the car up.  Wait till next week and have the motor picked up.  When it got back I thought I would put the motor in and put a come along on the car and pull it back in and put it together.  Anyway I don't think I ought to try to put the car on jack stands as the weight would be concentrated in a very small area and brick paver could sink with that much weight or I don't want to be under neath it and that happened.  I am glad I don't drink anymore.

Can you slide the engine forward to disconnect the transmission spline?

You can double up some 3/4" plywood squares cut oversize of the jack stand footprint. Lay them down and place the jack stands on top. Same idea under the jack. Just work safely!

Put the plywood under it and managed to get the trans unbolted from the cross mount.  That gave me enough to get the motor out.  Long day, but finally got it out and onto a pallet for shipping. :woohoo: :woohoo:

Nice job! Any damage from the bolt pulling out? Hope not, but congrats! Reverse the procedure to reinstall. Is there anything on the car that needs attention while the engine is out? Now would be the time to take advantage of the extra room. Keep us posted!

Yes I have to plumb in a new distribution block for the brakes.  I can get to it pretty easy now.  Also just cleaning it up is nice.  I think two of the holes on the head will have to a insert put in them.  So on with the show.

Mention the damaged threads to CME so they will inspect them while the heads are off. Verify that the threads were repaired before the engine gets shipped back, just I case it was overlooked. Good luck!
