Which headers work with fast ratio, power steering?
« on: December 12, 2014 - 04:44:34 PM »
I have a 70 Challenger 440 with Firm feel fast ratio pitman and idler arms.
Anyone know which headers will fit without modification.
Great if someone had this combo and could tell me first hand. I know FF has some listed on there website, but I would like to hear from someone who has had some experience with them.

Thank you.

I used headman headers they fit with the fast ratio arms, steering box clearance was an issue though.

 :iagree:

Look into my resto thread to see what I had to do to clear the headers with the steering.

Great Job on the resto

I see where you needed to band the tube for the power steering.
I'm glad to see it cleard the pitman and idler arms.
I'm thinking of using Hedman # 78076.  Waiting to hear form tech if they fit without pounding any tubes.

Thanks

Just wondering if they fit with power steering, since it looks like they might not, and there website says it does?

I'm running the 78038 and your choice 78076 are the shorties.

The advantage of the shorties is that you will not have to worry about the torsion bars or the bellhousing on the passenger side. What I don't know is will the shorties clear the steering box itself. Mine was extremely close. The other downside to shorties is less HP against a long tube header.

You can call Firm Feel and ask them. I did several times.

Good luck!

TTI 2" will clear but don't use 1-7/8" TTIs. Check their website as that tells you as well

I cant get a straight answer from any header co. I called. They all say the headers might fit.
I'm leaning towards TTI long tubes, but they cant guarantee they will fit.

I can't believe that theres not a 440 challenger with Fast ratio arms and power steering thats not useing headers.

The joys of Mopar!

I don't know of any TTI header that will clear the FF Fast Ratio arms.

I called TTI last week as I am in the middle of my build. I bought 2" TTI headers before deciding I wanted fast ratio pitman arms. A couple quick calls made, and I talked with a TTI tech woman who said they would not work together, then she put me on the line with the guy who actually designs the headers (Sam?). He said that the 2" are routed differently than the 1 7/8" and anything smaller (for a big block anyways) and that there should be plenty of clearance to run quick ratio pitman arms. This confirms what another member has said about getting 2" TTI headers to clear fast ratio arms. See here: http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=48827.0

I'm no where near being able to test fit anything for you though to confirm or deny these claims, sorry. This is just what I have been told by calling around. Dick at Firm Feel had no idea if they would clear.

Thank you,
That helps a lot. I dont plan on getting these until spring, so if you get yours in before then let me know how it went. I will post how my experience goes also for future reference.

I went on TTI website and compared the 1 7/8" and 2" pictures side by side and the pictures are completely different. It does confirm what you been saying.

I'd love to see the 2" TTI's with fast ratio mounted up.

Report back when you get there cause I'd love to move up to 2" headers.

This is what I found on the TTI website: "Fast Ratio Pitman & Idler Arms:  ? (answer to be updated after fit-check)"
