Carter 2bbl leaking coolant from carb nipple??
« on: December 13, 2014 - 05:46:12 PM »
Stock carter 2bbl newly rebuilt, coolant is coming out of the nipple below, on the front of the carb. What's happening??? I had low compression in cylinders 6&8 a few months back, heads were warped. That's been fixed, but this is alarming.

A/C cars have a gizmo screwed into the intake that vacuum lines run to, think it sensed temperature & redirected vacuum.
...yours have anything like that? ... just a suspicion...

Not an A/C car. This motor has been one problem after the next, turning into a real money out ugh. I'll start it back up to sure it's dripping from this port and somewhere else.

does coolant run at all within the intake. If so, maybe a crack in
the intake, or corrosion has opened a pathway for the coolant.

I'll pull the carb and intake soon and look it over. Is there a certain section I should be focusing on?

or, maybe there's a coolant leak that squirted coolant over to that area,
while the tiny leak itself is a foot or two away.

Some intakes have a hole in the bottom of the plenum under the carb.  If your intake gasket is leaking it could flow through there theoretically I guess but I've never seen it.  Since coolant does flow through small blocks intakes, it could be leaking there.  I'd be doubly sure it wasn't spraying on your carb from the waterneck.  It might be hard to see but a lot more likely than antifreeze coming out of your carb.  Good luck and hang in there.

the closest coolant is the water passage at the ends on the heads or the crossover where the thermosts is , it would be very unlikely to get from there upstream through the intake & up into the carb base
