1970 challenger repo inner fenders with correct details
« on: December 15, 2014 - 09:14:48 AM »
Hey Guys,  I need to replace the inner fenders on my 70 challenger and would like to buy ones with correct details so that I don't have to modify them.  Attached are some pics of parts from the manufacturer that GYC just loves to talk about. Also attached are pics of my engine compartment. The major differences are circled.  Basically the repos pictured have 71-74 details.  I've seen repo inner fenders with the correct details on other member's projects, but I don't know who the manufacturer is. Goodmark ? Dynacorn ? I will also need to know who to buy them from.  - Chris

Well that's half the battle. It's funny that all the Dynacorn RH inner pictures are actually a reverse image of the LH side.  I think the bumps are just how they weld the front hinge plate retaining bracket on.

The same seller has a Goodmark RH panel that looks pretty correct.

I wonder if I can get Goodmark from Roseville? They carry Dynacorn and AMD.

Okay....I've done a little more research ....On AMD's web site they list 250-1570 for 70-71 E Body, but they have 250-1572 for 72-74 E Body, so there is a chance they have two different parts, but only one picture  :dunno:

I'm going to check mine this morning...

 Okay...I just confirmed that my AMD 250-1570-L is 100% CORRECT for a 1970 E Body. There is no hump/nut for the extra battery hold down. The pictures on AMD's web site are wrong as are the ones everybody else is using when advertising AMD products. There's also no weird lumps near the hood hinge area.

I can't comment on the right side, but it's worth looking into. :2cents:

FOLLOW UP: In the end I bought a set from Goodmark. When compared side by side with my originals, they are identical except for: 2 missing dimples,  the holes arent drilled for the tierod access covers & trim tag and the square nuts for the hood hinges are the wrong style (but I don't think anyone makes them with the original nut style). I would recommend them for anyone doniga 70 challenger. -Chris

You are lucky! When I bought my inner fender wells, there were no options, the only ones available were the ones for the newer challengers so I had to cut out the bumps and fabricate fillers to weld in, but in the end, it all came out ok.

So would this also be correct for a 71 (drivers side)?

I'm a little confused on the passenger side; they advertise a 70-71 pair on AMD's site (and Ebay), but don't the passenger side 71's have a notch above the shock mount that the 70's do not? AKA 72-up style?

If I'm thinking straight, they should really offer a matched pair to fit a 70, a 71, and then a 72-74 model, right?  :dunno:

I think the very early 71's got 70 right inner fenders. I'm by no means an expert, but what I have found is that some changes weren't made when the model year changed. Some changes were made later or earlier in a model year. For example, the notches for the 72-74 style grill were added to the fenders near the end of the 1971 production run. I don't think it's a good idea to buy sets of sheetmetal for earlier cars unless you don't care if its factory period correct.
