I'm seriously thinking of doing the long haul this year.  I may wimp out and take the new Challenger though instead of the convertible.

I drive a new Challenger on Power Tour out of necessity.  Seriously, it is extremely boring driving a new car on Power Tour.  Do not take a new Challenger if you have an old one at home that works perfectly good.  It is not what Power Tour is about.

Drove my Pace car the full PT last year.  I think there were more new Challengers than there were Mustangs this year, and there were A LOT of Mustangs there. All of the new cars all blend in together. The old cars are the show and part of my Power Tour adventure. Driving from St. Louis to Wisconsin to start the Tour, then driving from Louisiana back home to finish it. I can't wait.

Making you car reliable, comfortable, get good MPG and being able to fix it on the road is part of the fun that I have. Luckily this year, I only had an alternator go out in Iowa but AutoZone was a PT sponsor and I had a lifetime guarantee on my old one.

I have a fully loaded Suburban with Satellite Radio, dvd player and front and rear A/C. If I wanted a long boring drive, I would take it or probably not even go if I didn't have an old car.

Finally something good for St Louis! Looks like The Lou is in a great place for this year's PT - about half-way between the start n finish. Easy day trip up to Madison for the start. Got a planned stop here in The Lou in the middle. Then a long, but do-able day trip back up from Baton Rouge at the end.
Cheers!

Jay, Register the new Challenger, drive it up to Wisconsin.  On the way to Champaign, have a friend meet you with the Old Challenger, switch the windshield sticker and drive it into the show. Leave the new one outside.

Drive the 2 cars to the St. Louis show, Drive the old one in. After the show, you continue the trip with the new Challenger, your friend takes the old one home.

You get to see how your Hemi does in traffic and get some of the Power Tour experience with your old car. And still be close to home.

P.S. Your car should be able to IDLE or stop/go in traffic for 2 hours straight in hot June weather, WITHOUT OVERHEATING or VAPOR LOCKING.
All of my cars are setup for this, so it was never a concern for me.  For some others, it was a different story.
Also, plan on a day or two of heavy downpour rain. So cheater slicks going 70mph on a wet highway will get you sideways. We had a nice cool, dry June week for this year's PT but some years were very WET.

I may have to do something like that Rob.  I'll definitely take the '71 to the Champaign show and possibly to St. Louis.
