340 lost, what`s the best replacement?

I have 2 '71 340's in my shop.  They aren't easy to come by, but they are only really desireable by people who want their cars as original as possible.  Since you're thinking of a stroker motor anyway, don't bother with a 340.  Go the 360 route, the average person would never be able to tell the difference.  The only thing a 71 340 block would do for you is add a LITTLE value at resale.  If you intend on selling it, a stroked 360 would appeal to a different buyer, but wouldn't hurt the value compared to a non original 340.

  Yep and the answers to your questions are 1-yes, 2-yes, 3-where ever you like and 4- yes, from my viewpoint. 71 Cudas are scarce because they're sweet, so build it the way you like it if you're going to keep it and don't sweat it because it'll never be a #'s matching Holy Grail piece anyways. good luck

How far gone is the original 340 anyway? Cracked block? Spray metal welding can work miracles, well that and sleeves. Which, if you can save the original block, for a reasonable price, I say do it. Then prep it for resale/storage. Than go grab a crate motor of your choice for ramming around in. Like the commercial says "why pick one when you can have both".

Anyone every wonder how they "cheater port" factory iron for racing classes. I'll tell yah, one port the head as normal, two spray metal weld a small layer back in the port and presto as cast finish again. I'm buying myself one off of ebay, because there are so many uses for it. Harding metal surfaces on homemade tools etc. cool stuff.

block disspeared in early 90s, I don`t know what happened to it.  The only parts I have is the intake and carburator.

Best Replacement?...... = displacement!    I'm enjoying my  451 stroker , with all the aluminum goodies it has to be pretty close to the weight of a cast iron small block.

There is a guy on Facebook under Mopar trades that has 3 340 blocks for sale ('68, '69, '72) - $500 each.

Ano, pozdravy! lito, ze jsem, ze mam spatne. Jak uz jsem rekl, vim jen malo ceskych od babicky, ale ne tak dobre. Nasi pratele sem mohl dostat smutne , pokud budeme i nadale pouzivat Cesky a ne anglicky.
