crazy nice car, proper oe restore would be the way to go....
for investment reasons or not, nothing better then a 340.
search for the original engine...or any similar 340 would be best.

just my opinion.

As mentioned, your car, your call and I would go the 408 route myself. Chances of finding the original block range from slim to non existent and it may end up being a wild goose chase anyways. Just my  :2cents::cheers:

I like the OE route for a numbers matching car.
You could still achieve OE look without the original block if OE is what you want.
I would probably go 5.7, 6.1 or 6.4 Gen3 Hemi. All stock looking inside and out but what's this under the hood? Just a little 345-392 C.I. Hemi, 25 mph and 480 hp, no more carbs...
Maybe with a Whipple if I had the budget. You can easily spend more on a stroked 340 than a Pace Performance fully prepped 480HP 5.7 G3 Hemi.
Put a 727 or A833 behind it and you won't need to modify your tunnel either.

What ever you do will be fine as long as you don't cut it up and don't take shortcuts...  :2cents:
Enjoy!

Great find very nice some beautiful options . I would look every were and place adds to find a 340 block .Ya i know its going to hard to find a 71 block you might have 2 go with a 70 block if you can find one of them . All i know     is that   the car deserves a full restoration ..   Good luck  :aussie:

Why is the rear panel body color?  Shouldn't it be black?

Yep, your car your budget.  Nothing wrong with a  crate 360 stroked or not.  Affordable and plenty of them.

Except it will lower the value of your car.

Buyers prefer a real 340 for a 340 car an not some block that never came in a Cuda that year.

I'd  say it depends,  the good year restomods can go upwards of 70k when properly done, with its eyes closed. Even the off year cars, can fetch 40-60k. Value is in the eye of the beholder ultimately. Cost to build will be how crazy you want to go, and if your handy can be built on a tighter budget.

Whereas a # matching restoration will have a good value for an exceptionally rare car. Most will end up spending more to get the car restored than it may ever be worth, depending on what's missing. To be honest if I was selling a rare rebuild able  70 340 long block I could ask double or triple the normal price because I know I got the # matching crowd over a barrel, where the restomod/performance crowd would tell me to get bent.

Also what you intend to do with the car is important,  do you want to drive it regularly, fry the tires around the track, or down the strip. If so the restomod is for you.

Now if you are an investment builder, a mopar history buff, or have an exceedingly rare car, the # matching  restoration would be justified.

Ultimately, your money, do you want to have something your scared to drive becuase every part is nearly irreplaceable; or something you will enjoy taking out quasi regularly, have fun with, and be rewarded for your efforts with a big @$$ sh!t eating grin when you mat it, or toss it into a corner, and if something breaks no big deal because it's not made out of unobtainium...
