A-833 4-speed dimensions
« on: May 03, 2005 - 11:00:10 PM »
Here is a diagram of the Tremec TKO 5-speed transmission that is a very popular retro-fit trans for many muscle cars.   This transmission was designed with versility in mind because the shifter can be mounted in four different locations along the top of the transmission.   An optional shifter can allow a two inch offset so that the stick can mount on either side of the transmission.   (And, yes this is the transmission that Keisler uses.)

I am trying to find out if there is such a schematic for the A-833 4-speed transmission.   I am trying to find out exactly where the shifter mounts on the 4-speed for comparison with the Tremec.   If anyone has a 4 speed trans out of the car, I would apprectate it if you could share the transmission's measurements.   Specifically, how many inches back does the shifter mount and how many inches to the driver's side does the shifter mount?   It would be nice to know just how close the Tremec compares to the 4-speed in shifter location on an E-body.

Hey Chryco,

I'd appreciate it if you could clear up just one small detail.    You posted that the shifter on the Mopar's 4-speed was:  "24.5 " back form the face of the belhousing and approx 3.5" left of center".     Do you consider the face of the belhousing the part of the belhousing that bolts to the engine block or the side of the belhousing that the transmission is bolts to?     I just needed to be sure.    This can be very important info for future reference.

Thanks.
