Doing away with the front fender radio antenna
« on: December 19, 2014 - 02:34:38 PM »
I have been thinking about doing away with it entirely. I really don't want to put a hole in my expensive car cover either. Is there an internal or something that can be used as an antenna? for now i remove the mast before i throw the car cover on.

You can switch to telescoping.  :dunno:

That  would be helpful. Are there options for these cars?

https://www.jimsautoparts.com/antennas.htm

That link looks like the antenna is telescoping but will not retract to be flush, it will still be extended when fully retracted, like stock.
I looked into a power antenna that retracts into the fender, but coldn't find one that would fill the fender hole. These cars have an oversized hole in the fender.

I have one at the shop and will check to be sure but I think it goes all the way down into the fender.   :1zhelp:

Mine is for a T/A though.

I have this power antenna on my Cuda and it is only 3/4" off the fender.  It only is up when the radio is on.

 that's what I do.
What's the big deal on doing that?
They don't have to wrenched on tight to work.

Besides, when you put the telescoping antenna on, they're fatter not skinny like the originals.

Front OEM antenna is retro 70's look.   :2cents:

I made a hidden antenna for my cuda because of the tilt front end, I didn't want the antenna  wire stringing across when the hood was up. If you remember the old antenna that was embedded in the top of the winshield, I made one that I tucked under the trim piece on the inside of the glass. Turns out to work better than the original ever did. I took an old house stereo antenna that goes on the wall (looked like a cheezy wire "T"  and came with about all cheap stereos -I think they were called a dipole antenna ) and cut an old car radio antenna and soldered them together and wrapped with tape  the plugged in to radio and tucked it under trim and it works great -picks up more stations then I knew were available.

I have always just put my cover on over the antenna.
