the last 71 cuda made!
« on: December 19, 2014 - 11:55:20 PM »
I just purchased a 1971 cuda  and with the paperwork were letters from galen govier stating that it is the highest vin number in his database for 1971. Build date is July 71. That makes the car the last 71 cuda made and last big block cuda made. Just thought id share a bit of info I had.

Let's see some fender tag info!?

Sounds like a cool car for sure.  There can only be one last 71.

I am not trying to be a #&%@ about your claim, just stating some facts.

True, someone with a lot of knowledge and history of Chryslers vehicles has stated that his records show that your car is a very late build, and is the last one that his records show as being built.....So far!  What if tomorrow someone send him a build sheet that is one number later than yours?  :dunno:

That said, the build date is not necessarily the actual date the car rolled off the assembly line. So even though your car could have been the last one across the line, it would be very difficult to prove unless Chrysler kept those records, which they didn't or you or he where there to witness it.

It is cool that your car has a late build date, but even if you could prove that your car was the last 71 ever built I don't think it makes your car that much more valuable than any other 71 with the same options.

vertman you could be right. Someone could come up with a car that has a later build date but not likely. My vin number is way higher than any other 71's in his database. This letter from him was dated 2003. Not that many unrestored cudas left out there.

VON Vehicle Order Number is the determining factor over VIN Vehicle Identification Number.

If 2 Cuda's were ordered from 2 different dealerships the same day, assembly line set up of what parts in the bins when assembly started dictacted which one would be built. that could be determined on what options were ordered and what parts are available on the line.

Assembly lines didn't build a Hemi cuda and then right after, a /6 Valiant behind it.
It was more thought out what bodies would be built for the scheduling to increase production

VIN numbers could be 2 or 3 weeks apart...maybe longer.

Regardless if it is actually the last one or not, it is definitely one of the last big blocks to ever roll off the line in an E body. Very neat!!!

The last 6 digits would have to be quite an increase numerically compared to another comparible last made other E Bodies to really be able to determine that the VON and VIN are the last one for your car.

Awww c'mon A4R ... you can't tease us like that and then get all tight-lipped! That's kind of like when you scored with the hottest babe at the club, told your best friend about it and then clammed up when he pressed you for details! We want the juicy details (and don't leave anything out) and some pics on your score!
Cheers!
