Restored 1973 Dodge Challenger Value (Back at it again)
« on: December 24, 2014 - 03:19:06 AM »
Back again guys seeking your advise. Driving my wife crazy in my search for an affordable 1972-74 Dodge Challenger or Plymouth Barracuda. I think she's going to make me sell my Cougar or Ranchero to get it, haha. Anyway, found a 1973 Restored Challenger in Sacramento listed for 26, 000. It's on the Sacramento Craigslist for that price. Take a look at the ad and let me know what you think it's actually worth. I might make a run up there this weekend to check it out. The Barracuda didn't work out, maybe this will Thanks for your input.

I'd post the link.

Also don't unload the cougar, one of the cars that got it right in the first generation. My uncle has one and I absolutely love them.

I will go first.

17-18k. USD

its not rare, the color is not super desirable, auto and no mention of which one, no mention of rear end, the body moulding takes away value for me, I do really like the green interior I am not sure what is going on with the dash cap and the truck color but both are fixable. It's a nice driver that even has some room to make it better. A nice resto battery, cleaning the engine bay, repaint the engine and a factory air cleaner would make this thing look top notch. I also really like it's stance.

it would be more in the low 20's if it had a 4 speed maybe?

Yeap, that a blue Dash Pad.  Look at the lower trim they painted the green, but left the pad and trunck blue.

As to the price....$17,000 to $18,000 is all I would pay.  For that price you get a clean car you can drive.

Ad said matching motor engine and it is a non Rallye and no AC option car. What it means to build a 318 to 340 spec? Could be a good starting point if body is all good. $26k seems too high and not a fan for the green interior and green vinyl roof.

Kind of does. It may be a blueish green. It also looks like a sheet a nagauhyde stretched over the original dash pad. I've seen several "restorations" over the years do this. The scotch tape holding up one end of it kinda indicates why they didn't show the rest of the dash pad. They then laid out the remaining material as a trunk liner.

340 spec would be using a 340 cam and 4bbl in the simplest sense. If they did any real work to it, they also upped the compression, but I wouldn't bet on it. I agree $26k is a bit high for a '74.

I agree it appears reasonably solid and could be a good starting point. A closer inspection with a magnet would be in order to verify. The body lines at the bottom of the door and the rear of the 1/4 don't look very well defined like they should be. That could be the by product of rushed plastic work.
