Don't ask me how i know...

...that the tune-up guys who worked at Roebuck Chrysler- Plymouth loved to play pranks on me   (them  :fire: :fire: :fire: )

:fire:  "Horshack" (this was back in '79 and that was their nickname for me since they all knew i was from Brooklyn), get in this Chrysler and turn the key when we give the signal...ok turn the key

 :grinyes:  ok..BZZZT :ack: i jumped a bit and said it's still not right

:fire:  after acting like a couple of them made some adjustments...ok try it now

 :grinyes:  okey doke..BZZZT i jumped again thinking wtf???

:fire:  wait a sec...ok try 'er again

 :grinyes: ya's got it this time??

:fire:   yeah, go ahead (lots of grins and snickers)

 :grinyes:  awright...BZZZZT... :ack:  finally i look down and notice thin wire coming from ignition switch attached to seat cushion with springy metal frame as they're rolling on the floor in tears...d'oh

Another time i pulled my Challenger (the one on top in my avatar) through the Service entrance so one of them could check a skip for me as it was towards the end of the day. I left for a few minutes, came back, and was told to crank it and see if the skip was still there. When i did, it sounded awful  :o  :o - skipping horribly and even backfiring a couple of times. After letting me walk around trying to make sure nothing was wrong, they picked themselves off the floor long enough to return the plug wires to the proper routing :pissed:

Man i loved those guys...it was all in good fun - though mostly at my expense :dupe:

Always prime your new oil pump before you put the oil pan back on and fire it up. (And have your oil gauge hooked up before too). Man Burpin was stupid back then.  :dupe: :dupe: :dupe:

Don't ask me how I know but,

Don't spray belt dressing (remember that stuff?) on a fan belt with the engine running while standing downwind.   :ack:

OK I have another from a long time ago -

Don't ask me how I know you should never check the gap on the distributor with the ignition still on.

Thanks to the girlfriend at the time for not making sure the key was all the way back ( she was in the driver seat at the time )

The main good ones I can think of are;

Brake fluid tastes 10 times worse than gas! :ack: (learned that one at about age 25)

If you pull your coil wire off to check compression, make sure you don't have any fuel leaks before you crank it...oh & it's best to pull the coil wire from the coil side instead of distributor side.

Make sure the engine's cooled a bit BEFORE you take the radiator cap off. (age 17)

The caution sticker on some fan shrouds really do mean keep your fingers away from the fan. (age 17)

After doing numerous burnouts, your vehicle develops strange vibrations...you WILL lose a driveline at an unopportune moment. (age 16, 17, 18, 19...)

If a car's been driving a while, do not reach through a rim with your finger to wipe dirt off a brake rotor!  :o (age 10)

It's amazing how small of pieces a rear window will break when shot with a BB gun. (age 10 or so) It's also amazing how pissed your Dad will be when he sees the window.

Never touch your headers after you've been driving for a while... Let me re-phrase that. NEVER touch you headers, period. I have the scar to prove it.

When mountain biking, make sure you are going fast enough to ride over that fallen tree. :banghead: Just picture the bike stopping on a dime, and I don't.  :-[ :-[ :-[ It cost me a broken rib and many sleepless nights because I sleep on my side. Basically I'm a crash test dummy when I'm on a mountain bike.  :grinyes: :grinyes: :grinyes:

If you see a muffler lying on the highway, don't try to pick it up to move it.

When peeling out in a column shift automatic be carefull not to shift from first all the way to reverse.

Even when the air pressure is released out of the tank do not look into the hose coming out of the pressure sand blaster to check for a clog as there might still be a little pressure in the hose.

When doing a burnout in the street in front of work for your co-workers try not to do it when an unmarked police car is coming the other way.  :grinno:

If you see a radiator hose bulging while the engine is running don`t just stand there and look at it.Got sprayed in the face with HOT coolant when it burst!
