STEERING COLUM MOUNT ?
« on: December 31, 2014 - 04:15:45 PM »
Does the E body use the plastic blocks to mount the steering column to the dash bracket? Im guess not as they don slide in like the do on other columns.

Ok old thread, same question. These parts are listed on ebay as being used on 70-74 ebodies to mount the steering column. Are these plastic blocks/spacers actually used, and if so where? Only 2 studs and 3 blocks/spacers? confusing..  :clueless:  what say you experts?

I just had our's all apart, and the studs are the only pieces there I recognize.

Thanks FY1. I don't have any on mine either, but I have no idea how many times it had been apart before I got it. I see no place that it looks like they would belong. Unless someone else chimes in and says different, we can assume the ebay seller doesn't know what he is talking about.

I have used washers there to make an adjustment to get the steering shaft centered in the column along with moving the floor plate.  I didn't have that tool mentioned in the FSM for centering the shaft. I didn't know if there was such a thing as those spacers.  The FSM says to "shim as required."

Well, Hmmmmmm. When we disassembled Toxic's Challenger there was a black wire exactly like that. I tagged and saved it for reassembly, steering column to lower dash frame. Looked like it came from the factory that way ?. The markings of the wire terminal ends looked original. Maybe a warranty horn issue.  And I believe the wire has a part # on it. I will advise. No plastic spacers.

I believe the spacer's are definitely Mopar, but surely not an E-body thing. This is from Chrysler's 1968 Master Technician's Service Conference - 8 - Safe for the Road
