Anyone have this Leather wrapped Tuff wheel?
« on: January 01, 2015 - 01:31:05 AM »
Just wondering if this is a grant wheel wrapped in leather or...? What's the quality like?  I have a Grant wheel on now and was wondering about getting it wrapped in leather or buying one of these?

Im considering one myself actually, I emailed MCB and he said they bolt straight up to my existing crush can, the factory horn base will bolt straight up but I would need one of their horn buttons ($29)

I believe Dave at Roseville sells this one too.  Might check with him on price before you pull the trigger.

MCB did my original Tuff Wheel several years ago.  The center/spokes were done in silver and clear powder-coats.  The wheel was leather wrapped with the "baseball" stitching.  The quality of the work was outstanding!  Can't remember what the cost was, but considering what I paid for the used/original Tuff wheel and the work that MCB did, the price on the ebay listing seems very cheap.  BTW - I'm fairly certain that MCB is Matt's Classic Bowties.

I wonder if I could get that in colored leathers?

I was hoping they were a little thicker than the regular tuff wheel. That's why I was considering having mine wrapped?  :dunno:

I may not be correct, but my memory tells me that Chrysler offered 2 different Tuff wheels in the early- mid 70s... one was 15"  and the other was 14".   I had actually bought a new one (14 or 15) but was displeased with the very slippery feeling, as well as it was still too large in diameter (progressively smaller steering wheel gives another advantage for quicker steering response... for autocross, etc).  Further, the factory Tuff whel was a little too thin.   In my opinion, the thicker wrapped leather grip would be much better and desirable, as well as IF they could make it in the 14" diameter, or even a 13-12.5-12 offering.... 15" is absolutely too large... imo, for my needs/wants.   I think Grant's Tuff wheel is 15" or slightly larger.
Autocross/road racers go in deeper... and come out harder!
