Need some help on what I need....
« on: January 04, 2015 - 06:43:44 PM »
I'm putting a 6.1 in a 71 Cuda with an AlterKtion, Not 100% sure what all I need to get it in the car,
Oil Pan?
Oil filter?
Headers?
Starter?

I'm running a 6-speed GM T-56 magnum with the quick time bell, Assuming I will have to add a pilot bearing

Any help?
Thanks...

There are a few threads in the restoration section from folks who have already done this swap.  It will be a lot of reading but there are some good tips and tricks:

To answer your specific questions:

Oil pan:  With the AlterKation you need a mid or rear sump pan.  Charlies makes an aluminum one.  A Jeep SRT-8 oil pan also fits but loses a little ground clearance  I think there are a couple other options as well.

Oil Filter:  Mine fit fine without any adapter.  Be aware that they changed the oil filter threads in like ~2008.  So make sure you know the year of your engine.

Headers:  TTI makes a really nice header just for the AlterKation Gen III hemi swap.  They have them on their website: part number 61HCA

Starter:  You have to cut down the two bosses on the side of the block to make a starter fit on the drivers side.  I used a RobbMc starter since it gave the most clearance.  I could not make the late model starter (MP "mini" starter) fit my setup for some reason.

Yes you need a pilot bearing.  You also have to remove the torque converter bushing that's in the existing crank.  It can be a pain in the butt.  I showed how I did it in my thread.

These 2 vendors specialize in this type of swap and make quite a few of the swap parts:

The starter you need is Bouchillion part # 61R274  , They have the best deal going for a bolt in Griffin Radiator with the aluminum shroud and electric fans.
