Headlight relay upgrade

Finally pulled the trigger a few weeks ago and ordered the relay kit made by Rob Yule. Very high quality kit that took me a few hours to install, but I think well worth it. Before I was getting dash flicker and now....none. Plus my headlights and dashlights are much brighter, and I used the occasion to repair my headlight trim rings (a mount hole in my grill was broken so fixed it with epoxy putty) and aim them properly (against the garage door  ).
I am also adding a new vintage am-fm radio soon (it should arrive any day) so my electrical upgrades for the year should be complete in January!

A bit surprising that the ammeter is showing a little discharge with the tach at 2200rpm. I'm guessing it has been bypassed? If the ammeter is still in the circuit (not bypassed) you might want to go over your connectors and make sure they are not dirty/corroding.

I reached Rob through A bodies only and contacted him by email. He custom made it for my 4 light e-body.
I did the alternator bypass 4 years ago, so the ammeter doesnt read accurately.

Basically, I have the relays mounted under the battery tray, right next to my msd box, and a pair of 12g wires run from there back to the firewall, across, and then over the passenger valve cover to the alternator post. There are three ground wires, and two pairs of headlight wires, different lengths, to run through the rad support and over to behind the light buckets. Remove trim rings and unplug existing lights. Replug them into the new sockets, and finally plug the "trigger" wire into the old socket that your left drivers low beam was plugged into, and youre done. All my old wiring was left in place, tucked out of sight for the most part.

Its great to have it running again, and running well to (knock on wood). Taking it to a cruise in tonight and cant wait for the new radio. Should be nice 76 degree weather tonight

I'm a bit impressed with how bright the lights are now, guess that tells you how much resistance is in the original setup.

Glad to hear the 71 is running good again, I know how frustrating it can be to chase a problem for awhile.

This is the way modern headlights are all wired now , using a low amp circuit to switch the relay &  send  battery power directly to the headlights , it never made sense to run all the power through the firewall & the headlight switch & back through the firewall to the headlights ! The headlights better be brighter as more current will be getting to the lights now !

a big difference. Rob makes it so much easier . I don't have to round up the parts , cut the wiring ,and so on just mount the relays plug it up and hookup the ground and power . The only

way it would be easier is if he included installation too lol. While I'm installing my kit, I'm also going to run my alternator to the starter relay , bypassing the amp meter.

Got it today and started the install by removing the aftermarket Pioneer unit. Took me 45 minutes to get it out!
Found out my two little front dash speakers werent plugged in (and are no good anyways) so I need to go out and pick up a couple 3.5 or 4 inch speakers before I put it all together. That will give to two fronts and two rears.
Probably just going to buy some generic pair from best buy.
