Stock Suspension Equals Wheel & Tire Size Help

I read through the tire combo post a few times but I just need to be sure.

Will the following fit my 1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye with stock (restored with new parts) suspension?

Front: 17 x 8 wheels BS 4.25" with tires at 245/45R/17

Rear:  17 x 9 wheels BS 5" with tires at 275/40R/17

I would prefer not to do any modification to the suspension.  These would be the Year One Rallye wheels.

Dont see why not, a little less BS on the rears maybe better,

Yea, you might need a B-Body rear to pull off that 5" backspace.

That is the exact setup I am running without any mods to the suspension on my 'Cuda.

For your 72, I guess you would want Acorn Centers though: Part Number: MRWSL2

A B Body rear has its springs 1" inboard compared to an E Body however the axles are only 3/4" shorter approx, so by going to a B Body diff only gives you roughly 1/4" more wheel clearence than an E body housing. what it does give you is a wider wheel or more guard clearance.

These are 18x10 on rear with 5 1/2" BS (these rims are actually 6" BS but there is only about an 1/8" spring clearance with about an inch of factory fender lip clearance so going to 5 1/2" BS would be good), stock suspension

Pulled the trigger on the Year One 17 wheels.....Rallye's.  Firestone was unavailable locally so they cut me a deal on Nitto's.

Now we try them on next week and hope they fit.

I suggest just getting the Year One 17x9 for BOTH the front and rear... they'll fit A-OK... and with 275-40-17 tires BOTH front and rear.  Having different size f/r rims/tires is a disadvantage if/when you'll need to rotate them.  Plus, the 275-40 in the front will make the car look much more awesome, as well as handle better overall.  If you wanted, you could even get a 5th identiacl rim/tire for use as a spare in the trunk.

I got the year one ralleys late last year, they look awesome!  My car has stock suspension, old and in moderate disrepair 

I ended up going with the 17x8's all around for a few reasons, I preferred to use a 50 series tire to maximize tire sidewall height both for looks and ride quality instead of something like 275/40's, so the 17x9's didn't seem necessary.  I think I also read somewhere on here that the 17x9's may result in some possible front end clearance issues on the inside edge. 

For tires I got Kumho Ecsta ESP 235/50 front and 255/50 rear.  I think they look pretty good and they have the correct weight rating for the car.  235/50 was about as tall a tire it seemed would fit up front, and 255/50 allowed me to get a bit more width in back without having too much difference in size front to back.  Would have preferred to run the same size all around, but again its all trade off's for one reason or another based on personal preference. 

Ultimately I'm happy with the choices.  I had to raise the front a bit to make the fit, but I think I still have some room left on the outside to upgrade to disc brakes, which need a little extra room.  The driver side rear is very close to the wheel well, but so far so good.  The rear leaf's are old and will be replaced eventually so I'll have a little more room at that time...
