Looks like PRW?
« on: January 12, 2015 - 06:06:37 PM »
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mopar-Chrysler-BB-383-440-1-50-Stainless-Steel-Roller-Rocker-Arm-Set-w-Shafts-/201259586061?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3A440&hash=item2edc01920d&vxp=mtr

Looking for rocker arms and found these. Comments anybody? They look like PRW's and they are the same price PRW's were 12-18 months ago.

72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Hard to say , the rocker do look like PRW , I thought they had a bit of offset though , the hold downs are anodized alum instead of steel .
No stainless are not heavy , nodular are heavier & alum are heavy as they are 2x as thick

Well from what I've read you want to stay away from aluminium rockers on a street engine, unless you are dropping $1000 plus for T&D Jesel, Sharps, etc.
I'm just trying to decide if I need something better than the stock rockers so I'm looking to see how much more it would cost. You sure can spend a lot of $ on rockers  :eek4:

I agree , I try to use stainless or nodular iron on street engines , what is the cost on PRW now ?
Ok 2x the $ at around $420 for a set but the PRW come with all the shims & usually a pushrod checker for measuring length

well, for my high lift solid roller cam, my Crane Gold alum rockers have been
going great for 15 years.  Rarely have to reset the lash.  But, maybe I've been lucky!

this article likes shaft mounted extruded alum rockers.

The ones they like seem to be the $1000 plus T&D, Sharps, Jesel though. Not prepared to spend that on my rockers. thanks for posting the link, interesting site.  :2thumbs:

Interesting that everyone prefers the shaft rockers which I have always believed is far more stable / superior design .
Also the steel rockers can be 4x as durable as alum & anodizing the rocker can reduce strength by as much as 50%

yep, I had not heard the anodizing comment before.  No surprise that steel is preferred for the street as we have known that aluminum work hardens for many a year.

Was unaware of anodizing causing a reduction in strength.
My stock rockers have performed since 1976 without a hiccup. Are the more complex (more pieces) aftermarket rockers a necessity for the .513 lift lunati cam I'm putting in? And if I buy new rockers, do I need new push rods too? Sorry for all the newbie questions, just never touched engine internals before.

Given the age of your current rockers, I would say it would be wise to replace them as they have seen more than a few cycles.  I would also replace the push rods for the same reason.  Be a shame to punch a hole thru the end of a rocker due to fatigue or lose the end of a push rod.

Given that you don't have a big lift cam with a lot of spring pressure, you can go to a lower end steel rocker for not much more money than a set of stock replacements.  No need for any high dollar units unless you want to impress your friends   :money:

If I put a hydraulic roller cam in my 76 LA block, should I also consider the likes of PWR roller rockers over std if the $ are not a problem? What are the gains if I do?
