72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

If I put a hydraulic roller cam in my 76 LA block, should I also consider the likes of PWR roller rockers over std if the $ are not a problem? What are the gains if I do?
Yes
 Aftermarket rockers are far more accurate as far as ratio so if you want .513 lift at the valve you need aftermarket rockers stock rockers can vary & may only be 1.42 ratio not 1.5 as advertized , also faster ramp cams require more spring pressure to keep the valvetrain stable which adds load to stock rockers even if the lift is similar the ramp speed opening & closing takes added spring pressure , so yes I believe aftermarket rockers are worth while  . You also need new pushrods that need to be careful ordered to exactly the right length but also the correct wall thickness for adequate strength to match the spring pressures again to keep everything stable , if the pushrods deflect or bend or the rockers do not have the correct ratio or the springs cannot keep adequate pressure & maintain the correct load on all of the components lost HP or damage wll result . Keep in mind at idle 600 rpm your valve are opening 5x / second & the piston is at TDC 10x / second , at 6000 rpm the valves are opening 50 x / second & the piston is at TDC 100x / second so they take a lot of punishment !
 I order pushrods from Smith Bros in Bend Or , they will custom build to exact length & nessisary strength with 48 hr shipping from receipt of the order , the prices are fair & the service is awesome !

OK. How do I know what length push rods to get? Do I just tell 'em it's for a 440? Or is there a proceedure to determine ideal length?
This simple (i thought) cam and head change is getting more cerebral all the time! Oh well, I guess I got all winter.

Everything has to be together to measure the pushrods , the PRW at least include a tool , , gasket thickness , head or deck milling will all change the needed length . SO you get the heads bolted on & torqued down , turn the adjuster out 2 full turns from fully raised / top adjustment . then slide in a feeler gauge & measure the length of the pushrod between the lifter & adjuster nut if it is a solid cam or for hydraulic forget the feeler gauge & measure the length of the pushrod with the adjuster topped out & turn the adjuster nut down 2 turns to preload the lifter

My PRW rockers came with two adjustable pushrods-don't know if that is standard, or just good luck.

Are you happy with the rockers? Do they seem like a quality setup? Where did you buy them? I found a place on ebay called Rebel Performance $420.

They look good to me. I bought them off Ebay after discussions with CP. Don't recall the vendor but he was in Florida.  I can look it up if you wish.

I just broke the lifter adjustment tip off four rockers during a drive lastnights. They were the prw and I do got a big solid cam and springs in the motor.
Its just a little 340 with a miss

Ouch . so the cups snapped off the adjuster , seems to be relatively beefy in there

Forgot to update you guys on this. Found out I had a rocker arm locking up cause of low oil pressure. That was my push rod. I have sense pulled the motor and having one done cause I learned my lesson.
Its just a little 340 with a miss
