72-74 Barracuda ideas.....
« on: January 12, 2015 - 11:47:26 PM »
Looking for a few ideas, suggestions and thoughts about our 73 Barracuda rebuild.  PLEASE.

Trying to decide on changing a few things.
70 front bumper (losing the 5mph bumper guards) using AMD 70 bumper brackets
70 rear bumper (with small bumper guards) using AMD 70 bumper brackets
AAR style rear spoiler (car had the chrome trim around quarters and trunk lid) will it look strange?  :dunno:
leave small chrome trim on the rockers or not???
leave door top chrome trim (and quarter window trim) or delete??  :dunno:
change to exhaust cutout rear valance or leave it as it is?

We have decided to go back with yellow/white side stripe and white/black interior as it left the factory.  But we are going to go with 15X7 chrome magnum 500's with RWL's

Yes on the bumpers
yes on the spoiler.  Would have to see with chrome on as to whether or not to remove.I would think it would look fine.
Remove rocker trim
Color chrome door top trim and quarter window
Yes on the exhaust cut outs!

I like that your going back with that original color combo!

Just my two cents of course.

I like all your ideas very similar to ones that I am thinking about for my car.

I am not a fan of the AAR spoiler on non-AAR cars. I prefer the clean look of no spoiler or wing on these cars.

I would go with a black stripe and interior to contrast the yellow, and the black AAR spoiler (no rear chrome trim) to tie it all in especially with the mag 500's. Yes trim on door, no trim on rockers, yes rear valance cut outs, yes on '70 bumpers.   :2cents:

The original 72-74 bumper brackets have square holes where the 70 alignment ws to pull in the bumper.  You can drill them out to fit the bumper tight against the body.

see this about midway down the page.

A few pages further is an install of the chin spoiler, the wing...  then louvers...  never stops...

enjoy!

I agree with Alan:
Yes on the bumpers
Keep all the chrome trim as is.
No on any spoiler. <-- :dunno:
Original colour combo

The bumpers would be the same as a '72.  keeping the trim keeps it a 'cuda; removing the trim makes it look like a base model Barracuda to me, and more like a clone than the real deal.  Heck, I would even go with the '72 side stripe, rather than the '73-'74 stripe.  I had an AAR front and rear spoiler on my '74 'cuda (with all the trim), and it looked fine IMHO.

Completely up to you of course. However I think everyone would agree on going with the earlier bumpers. Even with the 72 bumper brackets I still had to cut and re-weld mine to tuck them in.  So depending on your fabrication skills you might be able to do that with your existing brackets.

I love the AAR spoiler.  I have one on mine with the rear chrome trim so go to my thread for pics on what that looks like.

Chrome trim on top of doors is a personal choice. I deleted mine. It never fit that well anyway.
