73 challenger Hood release
« on: January 25, 2015 - 09:11:04 AM »
Just starting to explore the new (to me) challenger.

seems like the original hood release (pull which pulls the catch forward) does not work well. Someone along this challengers life built a home made release (kinda like my cuda's) which pushes the latch from the side.

What do most guys do to
1. get the original latch design to work
2. add a real cuda type hood release
3. do something else like cable release

burdar, thanks for the pictures. On the lower part where the hood release presses against the hood latch, I notice some bolts holding the hood release lever assempbly in.

on mine there were screws (not the correct fastner).

Do you now what size bolt and thread size should go there?

The hood release lever is attached with four screws.  The screws have a hex head.  They are a coarse thread screw since they go down into the fiberglass header panel.

I took it apart and cleaned off the rust, did a light phosphoric acid wash then clear coated it. I have bought the new bolts, but the picture is with the old screws
