Denver CO - Sights and Sounds

Hey Guys,

Any suggestions on what to see in Denver.

Looks like I will be there Sunday through Tuesday on a business trip.  May have a little time to myself on Sunday and Tuesday morning.

My favorite thing to do there is catch a bus to Vail and strap on some skis.  Guess we'll both have to wait for one of the locals.

If you have time, skiing is the top choice.  Vail for visitors is my choice spot, but its 100 mi from Denver so usually do an overnight although a day trip is possible.  Plenty of other closer places to ski including Keystone, Winter Park, and Loveland.  Sunday the traffic is a mess anytime after 2:30 coming back, so you could duck off I-70 at Silverthorne/Dillion and grab a bite at the Dam Brewery.  You could probably golf too, as it is supposed to be 70 degrees Tuesday.  I would hit Red Rocks, even though no concerts now but still amazing to see.  There is a little Mexican Food place in Morrison (small town near Red Rocks) called the Morrison Inn that is a favorite as well.  You could go to Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes and see the Elk and other wildlife.  You could fly fish the Blue River in Dillon or the Eagle in Vail or the South Platte Southwest of Denver.  One of my favorite small bars with live music is The Little Bear in Evergreen (http://www.littlebearsaloon.com).  Tuesday morning for breakfast I would hit Sams No. 3 or Snooze, couple of each around town.  Another good place to eat dinner is The Buckhorn Exchange.

Skiing is out...just not my thing.  The other stuff all sounds pretty good though.

bandamere speedway is over by morrison also.  Probably no racing going on, but cool to see anyway.
There is also a really cool Dinosaur museum and dino walk there in Morrison.

Don't forget about the Denver museum of nature and science.  Very cool spot.
I think they still have an indoor butterfly/rose garden next to that.

There is also some cool ethnic food places over on East Colfax as I recall.  I ate at an ethopian joint that was pretty good.  Seriously, yes, they do have food to eat.

If you have the time, Garden of the Gods is 1 hour away in Colorado Springs as well as the olympic training center.   

What do you want to do would be the question.  We are full of recreation here in Colorado.  Maybe you can catch up with one of the Denver guys.  they should chime in soon.

Denver Mint, Coors Brewery Tour, Buffalo Bill's Grave & Museum, School of Mines Museum... Great Town been there quite a bit for work... Always find something to do with my free time...

Along with the Coors Brewery, there are a bunch of micro-brews (www.denvermicrobrewtour.com) in Denver and Ft. Collins which is about an hour north (www.visitftcollins.com/brewery-tours).  If you prefer whisky, we got one of those too (www.distillerysolutions.com/stranahans/tours.php).  If you are going to watch the Super Bowl, there are a bunch of sports bars in LoDo near Coors Field.  Most of them like Wynkoop, Breckenridge Brewery, Falling Rock, etc have their own micro-brew beers that are processed on site.

Denver is a major metropolitan city and as such as a broad selection of museums, galleries, shopping, and site seeing. What do you like to do and do you want to stay in the city or migrate out some distance?

The lower downtown area, Lo Do, is home to lots of trendy restraunts and brew pubs as well as Coors Field, home of the Rockies baseball club.

Larimer Square has artsy stuff and eateries in Victorian era buildings and is hosting Snow Fest while your here. If the weather doesn't cool down, I don't know how well that will go over. 

16th St Mall is a mile long outdoor shopping opportunity in downtown. 

Pepsi Center is home to Nuggets basketball and Avalanche hockey, but no games are scheduled during your visit.

The Denver Zoo is pretty impressive and being in a central city park, is an easy walk.

As a pioneer boom town, Western stuff abounds like the Colorado History Center, Museum of Western Art, Buffalo Bill grave, and Four Mile Park.

You leaving few days too early to hit the Tri-State swap meet, biggest car parts swap in the area, which runs Feb 7-8.

I just returned from a week in Denver. Had 6 in's of snow and that made it even more beautiful.
If you want some good Italian food, check out Grappa's. You'll have to google to get the address but the food was great and the prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend the rock lobster and shrimp ravioli.
We did not  have time to go skiing either but we went up into the mountains about 30 minutes to Black Hawk. That may be the most beautiful town I have ever seen. With the snow it looked like a post card.
There are several casino's there if you want to gamble and the snow crab was excellent on the buffet.

If I would have thought to pose your question before going, I would have taken drewcrane up on his offering.

I took a drive out to Estas Park while I was there...great drive up the mountains..stopped at a steak house alone the way...big red barn right off the freeway...I cant remember what it was called though..best steak I have had!

We have a car show at our house every summer, I will let you and all the other Colorado brethren know when and where and we can have a barley pop or two,it is a hoot every year
