Wipers won't park
« on: January 27, 2015 - 07:47:21 PM »
Have a 1970 barracuda, two speed motor, high and low work fine but wipers will not park. Can someone tell me where to look in order to determine if it's the motor or in the switch?
keep honking I'm reloading

I have a 3 speed doing the same thing. It's seems to be a cronic problem in these vehicles.

If i remember there is a switch under the cover thats over the gear section of the wiper assy. Three screws hold it on. The switch is a set of contacts and I have had luck in the past with cleaning. If the wipers park in the wrong position you can rotate the cover to adjust for the correct spot.

Try running a wire from the switch panel to a good ground . I know the wipers wont work correctly if the switch is not grounded. And they usually don't have a good ground after 40 + years.

 :iagree:

I had the same problem. tied a ground from switch to dash and worked fine ever since.

I cleaned the points of contact on the braided ground wire on the wiper motor - problem solved for me.

If the motor was replace be sure it is one for an E-body because the A-& B-Body ones don't recess park

Check the stainless trim and make sure its not sticking up and preventing the wiper from parking. It does not take much resistance to stop it. That's what was wrong with mine.

:iagree:   Fixed my problem in 20 seconds .... the switch panel should have a hole in it (on backside top left ... as if you were looking at it from drivers seat through dash) .... if you have vintage a/c just follow the ducting that goes to vent below the switches - right above that you'll feel it - the edge of the switch panel that has hole (not sure if "reg" a/c runs there) .... was hard for me to get my  head up there, and needed to use a mirror - then needed 4 arms .. lol .... so once I knew where it was I could just fish underneath and twist a ground wire up with one hand ..

Good luck

Same problem here, just posting so I can keep track of this thread for later use.
Hmm, I would like a "save thread as favorite" funcion here on the forum...
