Torque Spec for 70 Challenger Door Hinge Bolts ?
« on: May 10, 2005 - 09:53:57 AM »
Hi folks!  Anyone know the settings?  :dontknow:  We hung both our doors last night -  I took most of the outer bolts to 80ft lbs.. just guessing.  but strange .... on the top hinge on both sides, the lower bolt seemed to "give" as I was approaching 80, so I quit.   I couldnt find the settings in the service manual.  Thanks in advance-  we need to do more door adjustments tonight, and we're working in the dark on this.

lastime I checked the door bolts are only 3/8" bolts so 45 lbs approx , 50 MAX
do you think the bolt stretched or did you pull the threads in the reinforcement plates in the body ???

thanks CP.  not sure-- I'll inspect tonight.  the other bolts clicked nicely... those doors sure are heavy and seems like need alot of clamping pressure to keep'em from drifting downward at the handle.  Also another question,  when we disassembled, we had 6 bolts per side-  looked like 4 in the bottom and two up top.  but there is a third threaded hole for an inside-out bolt up top.  I presume we were just missing those?  So 14 bolts total for hinge-to-body fastening?

I am working on my brother's Challenger. I am glad I found this old thread. I too, could not find the specs in the Shop Manual as to what to torque the door hinge to body bolts. I did find that it says 40-60 foot pounds for the striker. So I am going to go with 50 since it is between 40 and 60 assuming it is the same or close to what the striker should be. Thanks a lot.

I do not recall any torqueing requirements for doors!
I believe Alan just quoted the correct requirement. Just use a 3/8" hand ratchet and hopefully you're not a gorilla and you'll be fine. As CP says, they're 3/8 bolts, so be aware that 80 ftlbs is more wheel stud torque than door hinges. Good luck
