I use a balljoint pickle fork to walk the coupler off the box.  After i soak the spline with pb blaster thru the rollpin hole .  Gently. .dont strike the pickle fork ..softly pry.. Try to put something on the box side  so you not pushing off the casting......

As a last resort unbolt the two screws that keep the steering column tight up to the dash frame just for 1''. Then you can surely bring it back enough...

While I'm tearing the front apart, here's some other mods I've done:

Built a custom grille from a beat up stock 72 grille I acquired:








This project is how I found out that 72 and 73 grilles are different at the bottom where the bracket pushes through. Still need to do some prep work before primer and paint. I'm debating between spraying the grille entirely black or leaving the mesh insert silver.

Added a camaro front spoiler, saw this on a charger and a cuda and figured I'd give it a shot. They are dirt cheap and plentiful. After a bunch of re-contouring with a heat gun it fits really well:

Nice!  I put a 69 Camaro spoiler on my 68 charger!  Looked like it belonged caught some hell for doing but loved the way it looked.ill probably do the same to my car

Yea I thought about it but couldn't find one cheap enough to mess with, I'd think anything abs plastic with the right width could it with some heat

I can tell you one negative of painting your whole grille black. I also built a custom grille for my 73 cuda and I love the grille and the way it looks painted all black, but............I can't get a picture of it. Every pic I take of it just looks like a black hole. Probably need to get a better camara, :dunno. Other than that I love it. You can check out the pics. Good luck, and.........it's an Ebody so it will look great which ever way you go. Burnout!!!

looks neat, a little too "industrial" for me, but my hat is off to the builder, I know that was a lot of work.
