Ground point under the dash
« on: February 12, 2015 - 09:04:17 AM »
I am installing a couple a/m gauges.  I also had to ground the switch panel (lights, wipers, dimmer) because the wipers wouldn't part (which grounding fixed! ) ... but I grounded it at the emergency brake mount .. was closest thing and easiest to just test .... so I have that in temporarily.

What is the best place to ground for the gauges and for the switch plate.   I don't mind the e-brake mount .. I can actually get wires there hidden and not noticeable and easy to get to .... is there another easy point up under dash that's accessible just laying on the floor and not a ***** to get too ...

Thanks everyone!

I believe one screw on the switch panel should be attached to the dash frame.  That's where it's supposed to get its ground.  If there is paint buildup on the frame in that location, it might not get a good ground.  The frame should be grounded to the car body by the attaching bolts.  Again, if there is paint buildup at those locations, you might not get a decent ground.  There is nothing wrong with adding extra grounds like you did for the switch panel.

Thanks ... they did great job painting body when they did rotisserie resto ... and I bet a few attachment points weren't quite sanded enough ... but like you said, more grounding points are fine ... no way am I taking dash apart ...now everything works - I remember the ol' rule ....
