727 driving me crazy!
« on: February 16, 2015 - 02:18:51 PM »
Fluid started drooling out of the bottom of the bellhousing, so i figured blown pump seal pulled the tranny, figured as long as it was out i rebuilt it(seals, pump seal, clutches, etc). Nothing seemed to be damaged, fluid looked good. I blew out the cooler lines and cooler.
Put it back in filled it up and it is still  p!ssing(not dripping) out the bottom of the bellhousing. The transmission works fine but somewhere between the pump and torque converter its leaking.

did lots of googling but finding much anyone have any ideas?

Some times the seal wears a grove in the converter shaft and new seal will not work.  :2cents:

Only asking because you didn't specify, did you add a new front pump bushing? Some rebuild kits leave them out, some don't. It's the one that goes around the Torque Converter hub, and is located in the front pump housing; when they wear out bad things happen, and a new seal by itself doesn't do any good.

As mentioned replace the convertor hub bushing in the front pump... Back when I was 17 I pulled a TF three times for leaks, the third time I found the bushing issue.. While your there you'll have to  replace the pump gasket & O-ring... Be sure to stake the bushing..

thanks guys,

i never changed the front pump bushing or even checked the condition of it.
I talked with a mechanic who had the exact same problem and pulled the tranny twice, once to replace the seal( that didnt fix it) then replaced the pump bushing and that stopped the leak.

If that doesn't work, 2 things comes to mind from a DAMHIK situation I have had before.

1 the hub weld on the converter was high and had a small sharp step in it and kept it from sealing, and meesed up the seal

2  Cracked hub
