Wow guys, I'm shocked at the response to this thread. I always thought this community to be a friendly one.
First of all, I've never had a 4 speed car before. Most of my experiences are with late model manual transmissions with internal linkages. I received my 4 speed trans setup in a trade for a built 727 I had. Everything came in boxes with no instructions. The box was such a mix match of parts, I was scratching my head. The aluminum hurst shifter spacer was an old aftermarket piece from the 70's-80's as I found from research and it looked odd. Even the trans itself is a mix of side plate, ball detent and a 73 casing. I searched until my hearts content but only managed to find what I now know to be 73-74 linkages. I just found out last night that there are differences in 70-72 and 73-74 linkages. I assumed since my shifter spacer was aftermarket performance from the old days, perhaps my rods were too? Look at the rods, they are physically different from the other ones posted in this thread.
I am very mechanically inclined and take high offense to these responses. Having been a professional mechanic for 8 years and now a mechanical engineer with many years experience. I am more than competent. I assure you all.
I simply installed what I had and ran through the gears on the bench. Due to the ends of the rods, this was the only way it ran through all gears. Maybe my rods were bent by some event along the way.
Anyway, I have been a member of this board since 2011. I expected more class from it's members. This isn't moparts.
