Steering shaft

The steering shaft in the column is trashed in my car, is it possible to just change that shaft, or do I have to change the entire column?

Can you elaborate by what you mean that it's trashed?

Perhaps it's salvagable.

Sorry, I should have explained haha. The power steering box was removed years ago and a manual installed. Because the shaft wasn't long enough with the manual box, the shaft was cut, and a piece welded into the middle of it to lengthen it. It looks horrible. After installing the new box, i could always cut out the extension and weld the two pieces back together, but I won't. Rather replace it if possible.
