gasket? behind power break booster
« on: February 25, 2015 - 10:00:02 AM »
I was replacing my power assist break booster, on the old one I took off he had some kind of gasket / thin membrane between the canister and firewall, It was mostly destroyed after 40+ yrs.

the new one did not come with that. Is it needed?

Needed? Probably not..."a good idea? " always.

You can get a new one for about five bucks from Detroit Muscle Technologies :2cents:

There is a reinforcement plate that attaches to the back of the booster.  Then there is a foam gasket that goes between the reinforcement plate and the firewall.  You need the gasket there to keep water and possibly fumes out of the interior.  You can buy complete body gasket kits from DMT(Detroit Muscle Technologies)  If you don't want to buy a whole kit, you could probably make a gasket yourself.  If you plan on removing/replacing other components, the gasket kits will come in handy.  There was also a gasket between the master cylinder and the booster.

In the picture you posted one side of the plate is shorter the the other with the mental bent over. In the picture the shorter side is on so that if it was on the car the shorter side would be away from the drivers side fender (or more to the middle of the car), is that the way I should install it?

The band clamp is at the top of the booster.  That would make the longer side of the bracket on the drivers side of the car.

Thank you. It was not clear from the exploded diagram it showed both sides equal
