A66 Challenger shell
« on: February 28, 2015 - 04:25:08 PM »
Hi, can somebody give me some rough idea what this might be worth? It's a 1970 A66 Challenger, originally came with 340, 4spd, front power disc brakes, tach, console, 3:55 sure grip, sport hood, stripe delete, A01 light group, built for CANADA. Unfortunately I don't have pics but this car is stripped to the bone. It still has the front K-frame, the 8 3/4 rear, the decklid and one door but NOTHING else. It also somehow still has the dashpad incl VIN, the fender tag, build sheet and matching rad support. The car was originally TX9 black.  The remaining body will need rear 1/4's but otherwise seems solid. The owner does have a 1970 block that he could sell me also.  I have no idea why this car would get parted out but it did. I can probably find a decent parts car....can anybody give me an idea?

Thanks
Darcy

It's hard to place a value on a car like that.  I probably wouldn't give more than about $1500 for it.  Some pictures may change that number either up or down.

Thanks for the input guys. He is crazy high on the price at $7k. There were a pair of '70 buckets laying inside and he said they don't even come with. Another waste!  :clueless:

Whoever parted it out needs to be taken out back.

TX9 original are nice.

You said it needs 1/4's....How bad are they? How are the floors, trunk floor, trunk extensions..... ?

If those areas a super clean and solid and will not need replacing, that drives the valve up....RUST is your worst enemy :2cents:

If that was the type of car I was after, I would take that, only because of the documentation, rather then a more complete car without documentation   :2cents:

Yes: There's a few things to consider. If I had parts for this car (which I do) and if the car was local and the frame rails were good and the floors were useable  I would go for it. Of course I love Challengers, love black, love 4 speeds and buildsheets, fender tags and original numbers are a big deal to me.
Put another way, a 318 car in the same shape as this car would be worth about -$2k to me in comparison to this car. I have nothing against 318 cars however in the final build that fender tag, buildsheet, serial number and cowl numbers are going to bring $10k more than the 318 car.

That's my take on it anyway.

I don't follow 70 Challengers that much.....But if this was a gutted, yet documented, shell of a black 71 340 4spd Cuda....I'd pay double that  easily  :2cents: :drunk:

Documentation carries a lot of value in my books... :money:

From what I've seen, '71 Cuda's are pretty scarce though. Are Cuda's generally worth more than equivalent Challengers? (JSN0 to BSN0 or JSU0 to BSU0 ?)
Just out of curiosity here.  :dunno:

I would say YES :bricks1:

If you compare equally restored condition/rarity/numbers match/etc. Challenger's and Cuda's from 70-74, the Cuda's will be worth more.  The biggest disparity will be in '71, then 70, and smaller in 72-74.

I recently sold a similarly basket cased 1970 Road Runner, V code, Air Grabber, 4 spd car for $3500. Rolling shell, missing everything, quarters had been replace but it need a trunk floor and extensions.  However, it lacked all the documentation and had already been started being kluged together and had two different vin stamped pieces of metal compared to the original vin.

I couldn't see a 340 4spd Challenger being worth a lot more than that, even with documentation. Especially since they both were rolling shells requiring similar work.

What about a '70 A66 four speed convertible? Car is all there - numbers, fender tag, broadcast sheet. I know its like 1 of 66. Color is FT6 I believe with a black gut and top. Needs a restoration but it's not in horrible shape. typical rust issues but nowhere near a basket case. Rare car.......what's it worth ?
