Amazing how clean the 71 bodies were , the Charger is awesome as well .
This car is not a goofy rendition , Chrysler was well on the way to developing this car for real until Nascar changed the rules yet again , the 71s were specifically designed for smooth air flow , if you look down the side the doors are inset almost 6 " from the fender lip front & rear which is exactly how the air flow will follow the sides pushing wide at the front under pressure & then sucking into the vacuum behind the wheels .the roof line is the same , we drove my charger at high speed with the rear window removed & I was amazed to find the high air flow was only maybe 1" off the roof of the car . With my side window down there is virtually no air turbulence in the car , the air just moves around the car smoothly . Petty used the Charger body exclusively from 72 - 77 until it was forced to retire as the body had to be max 4 years old & as I recall was his favorite all time ride .
Obviously the Benekes understand the development of the 71 Aero cars & have done everything possible to accurately create the cars Chrysler never finished even though all the plans existed , 71 would have been an amazing year if Nascar had not bowed to the complaints & had continued to allow development . they even broke their own rules by changing the rules as all body styles were allowed for 3 years but they shut down the wing cars after only 1 year . I have watched in amazment as these people have recreated some of the most fascinating creations at the rate of approx 1 / year over the last decade or so . I am happy someone has the passion & means to build what was never built but should have been for all to see & enjoy .
