1 Owner Dealership AAR
« on: March 02, 2015 - 08:25:10 AM »
What a cool back story this car has and it could be worth a perfect restoration.  I'm not sure how you prove it was a dealership promo car.

www.ebay.com/itm/1970-PLYMOUTH-CUDA-AAR-/301547554688?_trksid=p2054897.l4275

I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW IN MARCH 1970. I RACED IT IN ONE SPORTS CAR CLUB OF AMERICAN (SCCA) SANCTIONED RACE, PRO AMITURE AND WON FIRST PLACE. THE CAR IS MATCHING NUMBERS. TRANSMISSION IS AUTOMATIC 727 TORQUEFLIGHT. (WE HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION BUT STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL NUMBERS MATCHING TRANSMISSION CASE). COLOR IS HEMI ORANGE. THE CAR WAS ORIGINALLY ORDERED FOR THE DEALERSHIPS USE, HIGHLAND CHRYSLER PLYMOUTH, GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN. WE WHERE ABLE TO BUY IT FROM HIGHLAND BRAND NEW. YEARS LATER WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS AAR WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT WAS ACTUALLY ORDERED BY A DEALERSHIP. ALL OTHER AAR'S WERE RANDOMLY SENT TO DEALERS SO PLYMOUTH COULD RACE IN THE TRANS-AM RACES. THE 340 SIX PACK ENGINE IS THE ORIGINAL NUMBERS MATCHING MOTOR. THE CAR WAS DELIVERED WITHOUT A WINDOW STICKER. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN PURCHASED FOR THE DEALERS USE. IT WAS GOING TO BE THE SPONCERED RACE CAR (DRAG RACING). THE BUILD SHEET IS ONLY PARTICIAL, WEAR AND TEAR. THERE ARE TWO FENDER TAGS. IT HAS ORIGINAL PAINT. WE HAVE THE ORIGINAL TITLE FROM MARCH 1970. THE CAR IS STORED IN MY BARN IN FLORIDA. THIS IS TRULY A BARN FIND.  HAVE EXTRA PARTS THAT GO WITH IT. OEM BEAUTY RINGS, QUARTER PANELS AND TWO USED FRONT FENDERS. NEW SEAT COVERS AND ROOF LINER FROM SUMMIT.

Hmmm where's the motor?

It looks like its not under the hood. The front end is sitting too high. I see the air filter housing on the front seat. Hopefully its not in a million pieces in the trunk or back seat.

Seller advertise the car as a original paint car but how come there are darker orange under the ripped stripes, and paint in the door screws?  :clueless:

When paint is not exposed to UV light it fades at a different rate.  The color under could be a result of the paint not being exposed or it could be the adhesive from the decal.  It might be the decal itself getting old and failing but leaving the film behind.  Either way, from what I can see in the photos the paint looks to be original IMO.

Wish there was at least one photo of the engine, trunk and underside.  I would like to own that car, but not enough photos to tell really what you're buying.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I was thinking same about paint staying better under the stripe, but door lock screws made me suspect the originality... More pictures would be nice to see.

Looking at the lower rad craddle and the door latch screws on the PS door I would agree it's had paint work...either way, still cool :2thumbs:

You  guys are right, I didn't notice the paint on the screws.  Even with the paint work I would love to restore the bottom side of a car that looks like that and drive it around.  It's got great a cool look.
