PG Classics Leather wrapped tuff wheel and Dodge rim blow cap
« on: March 02, 2015 - 05:22:30 PM »
I'm swapping out my Grant tuff wheel for a PG Classics leather wrapped tuff wheel
http://www.pgclassic.com/256-bs-c-mopar-a-b-c-e-body-leather-tuff-steering-wheel/
Why? Well I like the feel of the leather and the wheel it's self is 1" smaller than the grant version.( 15 1/4 OD vs 14 1/4" OD ) I've always loved the look of the Dodge rim blow center cap too.
http://www.megapartsusa.com/proddetail.asp?prod=205%2DME8139

The issue is the horn switch is too tall leaving a gap, so I turned up a spacer, drilled and tapped a few mounting holes (6-32) and a quick spray bomb of trim paint . I like how it turned out!
A few issues with the PG tuff wheel, one, Chinese definition of polished and mine don't jive. I spent about an hour with some 600 grit paper polishing it up better. (Spokes are stainless steel), next they "forgot"  ::) to tap the 6-32 screw holes for the horn switch. Other than that I like it!  I first saw this on Scotts car ( Dodgeboys) and really liked the look. Not sure how he mounted it all up but maybe he will see this and chime in?

Nice Brad, good stuff, I'm thinking of the same wheel and diam but I'd really like the two spoke rather than three,,,, I know its not out there.

Nice work there Brad. Looks like you cranked out that sucker on the lathe in no time!

So I have to ask, was the other steering wheel really thin or hard versus the leather one?

Might change out for a softer setup.

I find the leather feels nicer a little thicker too, that and it's 1" smaller in diameter.

Nice work Brad!  :clapping:
I bought a Repo Tuff wheel from Dale's Cuda Shop. It came with the Rim Blow style Fish cap but is harder than I like. I was thinking it would be better if it were leather wrapped but it would probably cost less to just replace the wheel. Looks good but is just a bit too hard/firm...

Randy, that is the same wheel I originally ordered from Dave at Roseville and returned it because of the same harder feel you described.  I now have a leather one like Brad and like it a lot better.  I really like your fish cap but have not talked myself into spending more on the cap than the whole wheel cost.

This is what I am putting in my 'Cuda.

It is made completely from 6061-t6 aluminum with stainless bolts. You can get it brushed or polished and a wide variety of emblems or logos.
The profile is a little shorter than the original for a more pleasing appearance and the cost is less than the repo plastic option. :cooldancing:

Cheers!

Hi guys, sorry for the late reply been working to much. lol

Thanks for the kind words about the horn button and I don't mind sharing my source cause it's me. lol

I am in the process of starting my own line of custom Mopar parts for the guys who wants something that retains a lot
of  the original design but has a cool modern flare to it.
The  photos are rendered images of the 3d models I have to this point. We are cutting aluminum as I write this on the proto type.

We plan to offer the fish, 'Cuda, Challenger and the Mopar emblem but we can  make anything someone wants to personalize their horn.

These should fit and work perfectly with any original wheel and any 5 or 9 hole aftermarket wheel with our crush can.
The crush can will look like stock from the outside but will be available in stock and rimblow lengths.
Pricing is not completed at this point but my plan is to make this piece available for less than the plastic repop units available.

We are currently working on tooling for a original gauge panel replacement for late model gauges for both rally and standard formats.

Cheers!
Mickm
