the con rods always have an oil hole in the cap this has to be directed upward toward the cam & cylinder bores or they will starve for oil

Aha, thats why. Yep, all those holes are in the right direction now.

Installed a timing chain tensioner, seems like a good addition, the old roller chain was very loose.

Yeah, just new valves, springs and retainers. Earlier I was thinking about getting Edelbrock heads, or changing to the larger intake valves, but decided not to, this 340 is not gonna be in the car for a long time, at some point I want a Hemi.

IMO the Eddy heads are a good way to waste $ nothing more than a stock head cast in Alum , the later 308 casting provides more HP gain
