« on: March 04, 2015 - 10:19:05 AM »
Looks like a beauty, and it will be interesting to see what it goes for at no reserve.  The 383 and auto will hurt the price somewhat but should still fetch a pretty penny.

Have you ever seen this car around Mark?  Seems like one in this condition would get noticed and start up some conversations.

No, I haven't seen it around. I met the seller about a year ago, I looked at a Chevy he had for sale. He's a big player, buys and sells several cars. Seems to be a straight up guy.

That car is missing a lot of little things and I see things that would make me think twice before buying it.  The little SE items are expensive and hard to find.  Don't want to make a list, but anyone buying it should have someone look at it in person AND ask for photos of the "bare metal" paint job before it was painted.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

:iagree: with Cody. I just did a mouse over of the underside pictures. Not impressed.

Looks like they painted over the undercoating - or used color undercoating.   :clueless:

something fugly going on there. look at the frame area around the torsion bar. maybe legit, maybe the excess paint/coating is covering up a lot. without the pre-op pics or a solid inspection, I'd be leary that it's a pig with lipstick just based on the paint job showing underneath.

Would it be a good idea to paint over the undercoating?

Assuming you installed the undercoating on a perfectly clean car.

I would think that would add some protection on top of the undercoating protection layer.

Just curious...

Looks like a hole is punched through the t bar mount.

Yes, the more I look at the belly, the more caution I would use.   :2cents:   Just for fun I might go look at it this weekend.  He advertises a lot on CL, but never posted this car.  :dunno:

The guy painted the underside, over the rubber plugs, over the brake lines, over the (not tight) emergency brake cable, over the fuel lines (in front of the gas tank). The paint was being applied when the seats were on (the screws are painted) and the leaf springs also. I can see that the center of the undercarriage is not painted, because, who knows, maybe he covered the exhaust pipes with something and he couldn't bring the spray gun too close to paint it. I believe that it was painted with no preparation at all and I fully agree with Cody that those little things cost a lot of money. As for that punched hole  :clueless:

A few more things I noticed. Heater core bypassed. No wiper blades  :clueless:. No washer bottle.  Piece of wire holding the console door down. Rear seat upholstery seams splitting. But a SLICK PAINT JOB.

That car looks like mine when I bought it, great from 20ft, but closeup everything is a quickfix. At least when I bought mine the previous owner just called it a "nice restoration object" and priced it accordingly. Notice that the headlight bezels don't fit the fender well, could be lots of bondo buildup there, also in the rear quarter trim, that was the case on one of my earlier Challengers.

Edit: Hmm. Just read "brand new fenders", weird with the fitting then...

Good eye soundcontrol. Yea this one I think has lots of lipstick. Probably won't waste my time this weekend. I will go look if anybody is interested though. Even if its no reserve he can pull it out any time. I really think many E Bay sellers hope to sell the cars to out of state/country buyers so they can dump junk with no repercutions. Not saying he is, just strange it's not on CL here.  :clueless:

The hood to fender panel gaps are terrible....
