Clutch pedal stop !?!
« on: March 05, 2015 - 06:07:01 PM »
Didn't know this stop was on the pedal until today. I suspect the installer of my Tremec 500 did it and neglected to tell me. Anyone seen this done before ?   It had been tearing up my floor mats so I'm gluing a piece of rubber hose to it.

Do you have a hydraulic clutch and Wilwood master cylinder?  The Wilwood master cylinder can only handle only 1.4" of travel before the seals are broken.  I have the Wilwood MC and had to add a stop - the travel was right at 1.5".  Came up with a solution using one of the bolts on the clutch MC brace, some washers, and a rubber table leg pad.

so you do not overthrow the pressure plate , I assume it has the diaphragm clutch & the leverages are all wrong

It does have a diaphragm clutch. I had suspected that the length of the travel might have been an issue.

I would suggest making a bracket that bolts up to the pedal assembly, with a bolt or section of threaded rod with a locknut. That way you can adjust the travel under the dash where it will not be an eyesore.

I am considering making a stop like you suggest. But anyone that sees whats there now has to be a contortionists. :D

So is this an issue with a diaphragm clutch? I just bought one from Brewers for my 4 speed swap and glad I was snooping here some more on everything before I start. Do I need a stop on the pedal so I don't F something up? I could weld an adjustable  stop at the top of the pedal before I put it in if that's the case.

The car is set up for a 3 finger B&B style clutch the diaphragm uses a different ratio so less travel is usually required , hyd clutches also often require different travel so adding a stop of some sort may be nessisary to make everything work
