Biggest Tire I can run on my 70 Challenger
« on: March 05, 2015 - 07:41:26 PM »
70 Challenger  :ylsuper:
I am installing a DANA from Dr Diff ( that was made for a B body ) so I can get more clearance. ( stock wheel wells, no mini-tub )
I have the 1.5" off set hangers and shackles he provided.....

If I recall, he mentioned I could run a 10" rim with 5.5" of back spacing

Is anyone running any of the listed tire sizes ??
- 295/65/15 (Drag Radial) ?
- 29/12/50/15 Hoosier Prostreet radial ?
- 28/12/15 MT Sportsman SR Street radial ?

Pic's would be great....
I want to stuff a BIG tire under the car, that is the reason I went with the B body DANA and offset hangers, etc.

thanks
Doug

 I'll be going with the dr. Diff 1.5" kit in the future also. Want to know how wide I'll be able to fit on a 17/18" wheel

Dave,
Dr Diff ( Cass ) was great to work with......
I got the DANA, offset kit, rear ( and front ) disc set up from him,,,
very friendly, and helpful over the phone...
What differential do you have in the car now ? ( i had a 8 3/4, but removed it as I proceed with restoring my car )

Dusty that looks great. How wide is your rear wheel? Do you have dr. Diff. 1.5 relo kit? I have 15x8 with a 275, want to go bigger once these are burned up.

Thanks guys! Just an 8.5" wheel with just over stock offset. Clears the springs easy, all OE.

I'm going to do some experimenting with my wife's 1971 R/T Challenger this summer.

I've been collecting parts for years.

I have a 1970 B body rear end that I'm going to install with Dr. Diff's offset hanger kit.

My wheels are custom made Torque Thrust 15x10 with 5 3/4" back spacing.

The tires are 325/50-15 BFG drag radials that are listed as 28" tall 13" total width with 11.75 tread width.

I hope to tinker with some 1/4" wheel spacers and see if it will fit.

I test fitted 28x12.50 ET streets under our other stock width 1971 R/T Challenger on 15x8" rims with 4 1/2" back spacing with no problems...see pic below.

I plan to re-test fitment of the ET Streets now that the car is sitting lower.
In the bottom pic I'm using a 15x8 rear wheel with 275/60-15 street radial tires and have plenty of room.
The Dana is stock E-body width.

I have the same mod sheet as you; 1" inset springs, B body rear. I'm using a 15x10 wheel, 5" backspace. Currently using MT SR 26x12x15. I've got plenty of room and may consider stepping up to a 28x12 next time. My avator to the left has a 295/50x15 on 15x8, 4.75 backspace with stock springs and housing. It also fit without any issues but was kind of close to the springs.

I've put a 295/65x15 on a 15x8, 4.5" backspace. It fit in the wheel well, but the aspect ratio was way off with the rest of my combo. Didn't look too good on my car.

I have B-body rear with doctor diff 1" kit. I have 1.125"-1.5" to the leaf from the sidewall (285\40-18) with 5.75" backspace from back to front because leafs have a little V to them.
