1970 Barracuda- What's it worth?
« on: March 05, 2015 - 11:34:19 PM »
I had a look today at a car owned by a fellow CC member. 1970 Barracuda 318 2bbl (not matching), 4-speed, 8 3/4, power disc brakes, non A/C,  burnt orange car with black interior and black vinyl top. Fender tag and build sheet are there. Car is taken apart but I am told it's complete and pieces are in good condition. The car has the following rust issues (through rust): front inner fenders near the shock towers, trunk floor is gone, drop offs had rust and have been cut out, right rear quarter in front of wheel has a soft spot and will need to be cut out and repaired, left front fender also has a bubble that will need to be cut out and repaired, the area beside and below the rear window are rotten underneath the vinyl top (visible bubbling), one hole can be seen when looking at this area from inside trunk as well. In addition to what the car is worth, I am wondering if anyone has experience with rust around the rear window and what the average cost of having this repaired. I am posting this and pics with consent of the owner. Thanks

I'll bite.  $13000 to $15000 the way it sits.  It looks like a nice starting point.  I paid $10000 for mine six years ago and was in worse shape.

Um, is that a real stripe on the quarter panel? What does your fender tag actually read ?  Is there a M46 on it?  any other little factory stripes on the car? If so, what color are they?

I have been away from where prices are at today. Here is link to sold cars/projects on ebay.

 http://www.ebay.com/sch/Cars-Trucks-/6001/i.html?_from=R40&ghostText=&_vxp=mtr&_nkw=1970+barracuda+for+sale&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc

Those will help you give the cars you are looking at a rough value. A car with virtually no rust will probably run at around 20k, or at least that is what I have been seeing lately.

Good luck on the hunt for the dream car.

Hi Moparal, no there is no M46 on the car and no stripes on the quarter panel. Sorry the pics aren't great. The only stripe on the car is the one you see across the tail panel. I don't have a pic of the tag but the car came factory just the way I described it. Thanks for your input.  :2thumbs:

IN MY OPINION ONLY It's a 318 Barracuda with Major rust issues...I would say $7500-$8500 tops. :2cents:

I was wondering why you guys were thinking were thinking that...and then I looked closer at the pic. The answer is NO. Sorry, not on this car. That's a little bit of primer on there for rust repair.

I would say  somewhere in the $8-10 range.  If you have to pay to have the rust repaired, it will not be cheap.

I actually wonder about that with any BH code barracuda.  most of these cars have had a repaint, so it's pretty hard to find one in original paint.

Do you have the fender tag readout?  that could make a difference on the value.

Does it have a build sheet?

I have seen a copy of the build sheet. I will try to get the fender tag read-out. So has anybody out there had experience with repairing this rust below and beside the rear window? I realize it's a guessing game as to what's under the vinyl roof but does anyone have a rough idea of what it might cost to fix? (assuming only this area needs repair)

That looks like a really neat car. I think around $7500-$8500ish. The rust seems minor but it's got it. It really depends what parts are all there and what shape they're in. Too bad the matching 318 is gone but it would really be hard not to put a 408 in there now.

I hadn't posted it because the car isn't advertised for sale. The owner says it's fine to post it. $13000 CDN
