'68 Charger - WIW

I have a line on a '68 Charger (see pics attached) that I am going to see on Saturday and would like your estimate on its worth.  Here is what I know about the car:

XP29F8B - now has a rebuilt 440 in '08, 727 converted from column to console. Comes with #'s match 318 and trans. Org A/C car but not installed. Paint, body, vinyl top, all interior restored in '05, replaced bottom rear qtrs, trunk pan, dutchman panel. New aluminum radiator with dual fans, suspension 3 yrs old, temp gauge and horn not working, windshield 9 yrs old all other glass org. PS/PB, drums on all 4. Center console lights not working. Body and undercarriage solid. Owner said front suspension vibrates when you hit 55 mph.  Current owner has had car since '04.

I love Chargers but have never owned one so let me know what you think and what are some key things to look for when seeing the car.

Based on all the talk I see on dodgecharger.com, that's a $25-30k car, so according to them it is a steal at $16,500. In all honesty, $16,500 seems pretty fair for an XP car with a transplanted 440 and floor shift.

Inspect all the usual areas for shoddy rust repair. Make sure all the electrical items work okay. Dashes are prone to failure. Check the bulkhead pass through on the firewall. A/c cars tended to burn these bulkheads up pretty badly.

I had a customer about two Summers ago that wanted a 68 Charger really bad, like this one, he didn't care what it started out as because he wanted me to build it "his way".
I shopped around locally and found only one available at the time. It was a complete basket project and they wanted $10K for it. I found out that Chargers bring good money no matter what condition.

This being $16,500.00 is a steal....you could never build something for that price.

  That's how I got my Challenger, it was cheap enough and I got it. If I was in your shoes, I'd go and take a look at it. This car looks awesome!!

Thanks guys.  I'm going to look at it and will let you know.  The price seems good unless there is something really wrong with it.  The shop that did the resto is gone, so that is no help but the machine shop that rebuilt the 440 is there and I'm going to give them a call.  I will keep you all updated!

That's how I got my Challenger, it was cheap enough and I got it. If I was in your shoes, I'd go and take a look at it. This car looks awesome!!

                             I've missed out on several cars because I hesitated. Is this car advertised for sale somewhere ?  If so please post the info, cash is in my pocket, I'll drive all night.

One bit of advice.. Calling the machine shop will alert other locals that the car may be for sale... If the shop has a good reputation for their work you might want to just roll the dice 16.5 is a deal, hate to see you lose it by stirring attention to the car...
