Roof Installation of Sound Deadener
« on: March 10, 2015 - 11:15:49 PM »
Does anyone have a picture of a sound deadener like Dynamat installed on a Challenger roof? I can find pictures of it installed everywhere but on the roof.

I don't have pictures but I used a product called B-Quiet made in Canada. Basically it looks like tar paper but is real sticky on one side and has silver paper on the other. It sticks like Shiite to a blanket. It comes in in 50' x 1' rolls. I applied to my roof before head liner went in. A small wooden roller is used to make sure air bubbles are out. Works real nice and makes the car bearable to ride in in summer heat to 100 or so.

Installing on a roof would be no different than anywhere else. When I put it on my floor pan I used a roller and a heat gun to make it stick even better and conform that much easier. I also cut the dynamat panels into 3 sections so it would be easier to work with. If you find later that you need to remove a piece of it, just heat it and use a paint scraper.

I've always wondered about if the car sat out in the heat if there is a chance it will fall off? Anyone with a black car have any problems with longevity?

:iagree: I'd be really interested in that myself, for my (hopefully one day) black car as well.

I have put the stuff on several roofs and never had it fall down, and I live in southern California.  I have had worse luck with the fabric instillation and spray glue.  If you a worried you could always add some contact cement to both surfaces. If you do, lets hope you are not the one to have to remove it.

Thanks for the picture. I just finished it today. what I was wondering if the Dynamat was covering the roof edge rail supports. Here are some pictures of mine. I was able to tuck, press, and rub the Dynamat behind the rails using smaller pieces and a flat flexible wood paint stirrer.

That looks great you've got real good coverage, I will try and do the same when the time comes.

Having the roof going from sounding like a bass drum to a dull thud make a big difference in the cabin.
