restored undercarriage pics wanted
« on: March 13, 2015 - 01:27:37 PM »
So to elaborate on the undercarriage issue.   How about a thread of restored/redone undercarriage pictures?   Either done to factory specs, full body color, undercoated, or some variation of all.

After a LOT of thinking, a lot of discussion and a LOT of back and fourth on what I think would look the best.  I finally decided to undercoat the car.  I know it seems crazy to go this far with a car just to undercoat it.  But that is the way it came from the factory so that is the way it will go back.  I really wanted to over restore (paint) or duplicate a primer with over spray look but I know I would not want to drive it much if I did that.  So undercoat it is.... :blah:

Actually a painted under carriage is easier to keep clean then under coat...Once undercoating gets dirty and dingy, it's really hard to make it look clean again.....and I'm just talking getting caught in the rain once :2cents:

Undercoat mixed with automotive paint and cleared has worked good for some of the other projects I have done. It also helps with the dulling out if it is in heavy sun. I just spray it off with pressure washer. Dust doesn't "get into" the undercoat for lack of a better term, and start making it look bad no matter what you do. Is a major paint to clean if that happens.

Something a little different, this is a Euro car that I did an underbody resto on about ten years ago... I took the photo earlier this year so it shows as driven about 50K miles  This is Wurth SKS which is a product that can be left as sprayed or painted within a 48 hour window... This obviously was painted.... It's the same coating you'll see in the wheel wells of vintage Porsches... It looks good, it protects, it deadens noise & it hides minor imperfections that would stand out on a straight painted under carriage...

I'm actually blasting my undercarriage this weekend and I'm still up in the air on how to finish it as well. I'll start by priming and painting then probably under coat later.
