Updating the HEMI In The Beast....
« on: March 20, 2015 - 09:11:40 AM »
I hope to have it all back together and back on the road by mid summer. I started taking the top end apart 2 weekends ago and hope to get the heads off this weekend. Any of you that have ever pulled the heads off a Hemi in an "A" body know my pain. The hidden head bolts under the intake and the header bolts are enough to drive a sane fella crazy...   LoL... After I get the heads removed, I will haul the car up to the shop where I work and get the rest of the engine out of the car. From there I will take the whole deal to my old friend Wyman Barnett at Barnett Race Cars for a complete freshen up. Another buddy, Rick Cassel, is assisting in the design of the cam profile and other things. I will post up a few pics as I move along and tell you all the changes that are being made to the bullet under the hood...   :2thumbs:

I started with this:

Curious, what was the reason or your goal?

The engine that is in the car in it's current state has basically been together since 2003. It is just starting to show it's age a little bit. I figured while I am going to the trouble of a rebuild, I might as well make some changes that I have long been considering anyway. My friends/co-workers at my shop, FairGround Automotive in Marietta Georgia are going to be helping me along with some of the big stuff.

Looking forward to seeing your updates Ken.

I hope to have a couple more updated pics on Monday. It depends on the weather down here and of course the weekend HoneyDo list....    :smilielol:

The major changes will be to the camshaft, CI, and compression ratio.....

Freshening the heads including clearancing the valve guides for higher lift cam. Also must increase duration to compensate for the longer piston stroke.

Going from 528 CI to 572 CI.

Going form 10.5 CR to 11.5 CR.

Looking for a little more HP and a ton more torque.....

You might want to see how mine turns out before you send Nikki down here....   :grinyes:

I will be watching with interest !!
I guess my question is why , you had it detuned to run it as it was so now you want more again but why rebuild other than is was showing signs of being tired .
Should be a monster yet again though !!
