Gauges not working
« on: March 20, 2015 - 01:37:52 PM »
I removed my rally gauge cluster to hook up the tachometer.  I just pulled it away from dash a little bit.
I didn't unhook the wires.    I just hooked up tach.  The tachometer works good but now my gas gauge and temp gauge doesn't work anymore.  Everything looks correct or the way it was hooked up.  Any tips on what I may
Have done.  Is there any fuses on the back of guages?

Does your oil pressure gauge work? The oil, temp and fuel get their power from the 5 volt regulator on the back of the cluster.

No it doesn't work. What does the 5 volt regulator look like.  Where could I buy one?

Most likely you pulled one of the wires of the voltage limiter.

It's on the back of the cluster, up near the fuel gauge. An original "mechanical" one will have a tan circuit board. The pictured one is the new and improved "solid state" version. They're found on ebay all day long or you can check with one of our board sponsors.

I would be surprised if you need a new one. If the gauges were working before you moved the cluster, and now they aren't, you are most likely looking at a wire or ground that is loose or missing(as previously mentioned). Pull your cluster out a bit and double check all the wires and then reinstall with all four mounting screws to the dash frame. And I'll bet they start working again.  :2cents:

Clip one end of a very long wire (speaker wire, etc ) onto the cluster and the other end onto a good ground. This will allow you to have the cluster in your lap while you check out everything.

:iagree:   I'd start with checking ground.   Was my issue with switch panel .. did this quick check ... then perma fix.   :ylsuper:

I just built one for about $5. Took about 15 minutes. Got the design from an ALLPAR thread. Works perfect!
