proportioning valve/meetering block questions.
« on: March 21, 2015 - 11:36:30 PM »
So I got a disc brake conversion from the right stuff and it came with a 1 in 1 out adjustable proportioning valve, the car had nothing on it so do I need more than that.  Do I get a 2 in 3 out or stock valves I am very confused.  Any help, ideas, suggestions would be great.

As I recall my SSBC kit was the same . it goes to the rear as I recall. That was 7-8 years ago, and of course a million pics but no pics of that....  :banghead:

Yes it goes to the rear brakes, it allows you to set the proper rear lockup in relation to the fronts.

So I can go straight from The master cylinder to the front brakes and just put the adjustable valve in the rear line?

Did you get a front or rear kit? What did the car come with originally? Four wheel drums or front discs?

The car was pretty stripped when I got it but I believe it was a power front disk car.  There was no lines or any lettering block or anything.

I assume we are talking about a 72 Cuda?  If that's the case, I'm not sure if 72 or 73 was the change over year or not.  I think this is the prop valve your car would have originally had.

It does a few different things.  First, it splits the rear reservoir of the master cylinder so fluid can go to both front brakes.  It also meters the pressure to the rear brakes.  Finally, it also has a pressure switch in it that turns on the WARNING light if it senses there is a problem.

The prop valve you have goes in the rear line.  It lets you adjust the pressure to the rear brakes.  You will still need a distribution block so you can split the lines to both front brakes.  You could just use a brass "T" but then you wouldn't have any warning light capability.

Yes put it in the line going to the rear. Start with it wide open, take the car out and do a panic stop. If the rear wheels lock up before the front, close the valve 1/2 turn. Make another stop. Repeat this process until the rear brakes lock up at the same time or slightly after the fronts. You will have it properly set at that point.

it came with a 1 in 1 out adjustable proportioning valve, the car had nothing on it

The problem is that his valve only has one inlet and one outlet.  He said he doesn't have the stock prop valve.  He needs another distribution valve in order to get his brakes hooked up.

Good point Burdar. Reread all the posts, and yours had the answers he needed. If he doesn't need the warning light capabilities, all he needs for the front is a brass tee to split the single line to each wheel, and the adjustable valve in the rear line. Wilwood also makes a prop valve with all the necessary connections, including brakelight switch.
