Well, looks like I wont be adding a deeper pan right now.
Just got the price tag back from the rebuilder.....
Seems that the friction material on the lockup convertor "came apart".....chunks got sent forward to the trans cooler in the rad and the outboard one......which restricted fluid flow....the fluid that did get through was contaminated with fiber bits......that led to major overheating and destruction in the trans.
-- torque convertor toast
- OD planet and sun gears shot
- Reverse drum shot
-roller clutch overheated
- piston housing overheated
- seperator plate is worn out (possibly just from high miles)
While he is in there he is replacing a bearing kit in the OD unit that is a revised part from when it was new......beefier/stronger apparantly.
Add fluids, master kit and labor and we hit $2150.
And thats not all.....he says the radiator trans cooler is a honeycomb type and cannot be flushed reliably.....so a new rad is $270 installed.
Add tax ....
$2585.
I am taking donations.
