Sorry to hear about your situation.....I'm more sorry to hear that Danny is not the "stand-up" guy that you hoped he might be....

I like the advise of just letting it go and moving on. This is a hobby and it's supposed to be fun and not stressful and certainly not worth losing sleep over.

Danny dropping the ball on this one, is certainly not a reflection on you or your ability to judge people's character by a few phone calls, it's nearly impossible to do. While I feel that the problems with the car should have been address in casual conversation, I can understand to a certain point why they weren't .

Advertising a car as "perfect" in every way is a pretty hard thing to do, there's not too many 45 year old cars that fit that description (other then mine  :roflsmiley:).....In Danny's defence, not that he deserves one, but some of these issues are certainly up for interpretation...for instance the clutch adjustment....Danny had it adjusted where "HE" was satisfied so it was most likely something he didn't feel as if it had to be mentioned....it was "perfect" as far as he is concerned....ticking in the engine....hard to forget, but if he felt "it wasn't that big of a deal" then again his perception might have been that it was "perfect" after all it's a 45 year old car....

The reality is not the condition of the car or how it was described, but how he's handled it after ward....personally I would have offered some sort of cash refund, but I'm not Danny.....deleting his posts here pretty much sums it up :screwy:

Hi Alan. I appreciate your reply. A guy that I have talked to on Danny's 1970 Chevelle SS board remembers him trying to see the car on different sites. I didn't know about those sites. Anyhow, he looked at all of the sites and he has deleted everything from all of the sites...not just this one. I am posting my concerns on this site because I have chatted with many of you here and this is the site that I saw the Challenger posted on.
Alan, I remember when I hinted that there were some issues with the Challenger in our pm's here several weeks ago, your response was and I quote "What problems are you having with the car ? Danny claimed it was "perfect". I didn't reply in pm form to you then with the list of problems because I wanted to give Danny the benefit of the doubt and do the right thing and fix a wrong.....and he hasn't. I would have talked to you on the phone but I didn't want to put this out for the board to see. That's why everything is coming out now. To protect people like me that love this hobby from people like him who takes advantage of others at any chance he can.
He told me the car needed absolutely nothing. I asked him about every part of the car and he said there were absolutely no other problems or issues other than the chip in the door and the driver seat needing to be propped up underneath for support. The clutch is an issue....he admitted he had problems with it and after adjusting it...it still isn't perfect. There is a problem with the engine that who only knows what it is. He had a mechanic pull the valve cover and look at things. Why pull a valve cover unless you intend on fixing an issue. I think after pulling the cover they found out that there is something much more serious than a rocker arm or it would have been fixed at that time. The seat is ripped. Now how do I go about getting that fixed? The carb problems and the leaks. Come on.....you can't tell me that advertising a car as "perfect" in every way is a pretty hard thing to do and that some of these issues are certainly up for interpretation. Danny had at least one person (that I know of because he told everyone here on the board) come out and look at the Challenger and they walked....probably because they saw all of the issues with the car. Alan, these are all issues that he knew about and that he should have been up front with when I specifically asked him about the car. There is no room for interpretation of these issues being questionable....he just lied. These issues, when put together, all add up to someone misrepresenting a car to someone (me) that was trusting and making it easy for him to finally unload the car he was having problems selling. It's not like he forgot about telling me just one thing and something that slipped his mind. I've bought cars online and I've sold cars online. I believe in honesty and the people that I purchased cars from online before did too. I was never surprised when a car I purchased arrived via transport because the buyers interpretation and mine were different. And, no one was ever surprised because I didn't describe a car with every detail I could think of either.
If he would have told me about the issues with the Challenger, I would not of purchased it because in this small town of St George Utah there are no auto upholstery shops or people that I really know and trust that can work on the car. Danny knew that because I told him about those problems with St George. He basically said what he had to say to move the car. He said it needed absolutely nothing. He flat out lied Alan.....no interpretations necessary here.
Although I would like to turn my back and move on, I will when the time comes....but not yet.

Why did you not have a member from this site check out the car?  Bolton is very close to Georgetown [Alan] or Barrie [Brad] I sure someone on this site would have checked it out.  There are alot of people out there who tend to stretch the truth.  Sometimes you just have to suck it up and move on.

God....if only I would have done that Imchallenged. In hindsight, I sure wish I would have. I kick myself every time I think about that. I feel I have a good rapport with Alan and I think I might have talked to Brad at times so I don't know why I didn't do that. I'm such an idiot. Maybe I didn't think anyone would want to get involved. I honestly don't know why. It sure would have made things easier. There was actually another car I was considering in Atlanta GA. I was planning on flying out to look at it but decided on Danny's Challenger instead. BIG mistake.

Hindsight is 20/20 as they say but I would help anyone anyway I could  but Alan would have been the better choice. He most likely has forgotten more than I know.

Thanks for the reply Brad. Well,,,I know you would have at least heard the ticking engine and seen the ripped seat. Yep....I was very stupid to not see if someone out there could help me.

I guess what I meant by interpretation is more opinion, one person's opinion of something can be totally different than another's. For example: words like "restored", "mint condition" or even "perfect". Everybody has a different definition.

In this case I can see Danny not mentioning some of the issues before the sale, because they meant nothing or very little to him and didn't cloud "his" vision of perfect.

HOWEVER !!!

The fact that after the sale he admitted there was problems with the clutch he couldn't fix, or ticking in the engine that alarmed him enough to have it looked at.....THEN I AGREE....that's pretty much lying or not telling the whole truth for sure...

But like I said...It's how he's handled in since that sucks....

My short story:
I did a complete restoration on a Cuda for a guy, had the machine work for the engine done, then I did the final assembly and the install of the engine....I drove the car 100+ miles and thought it ran great....Gave it to him and he was never happy...said the engine had an uneven idol and a murmur at highway speeds....
I took it back, had two separate mechanics look at it, test everything on the motor and we could not find ANYTHING wrong...I gave it back to him without really changing anything....I stated "if you're still not happy...take it to a shop of your choice and get it fixed, I'll pay for it"

Two months go by...nothing...then I get a phone call from a shop in his home town, they need me to pay his invoice $5600+ dollars....Even though they couldn't give me an exact answer as to what was wrong....the murmur was gone and the customer is happy.

I paid the bill in full....This was awhile ago but keep in mind I restored the whole car and had only charged him about $10K in labour so it was a major hit for me. However, like I said...he's happy, we're still in contact to this day and I know where he'll come if he wants another car restored....

I think Danny should just man-up, if nothing more then to make you happy and keep a healthy reputation for himself if he plans to stay in this hobby.

Well said Alan and great story of your dilemma.

If Danny had believed his car to be worth what he sold it for, I ask again, Danny, why have you gone to the extent to hide and cover up all your posts. Had you taken care of business, none of this would have been made public. I say the buyer needs to use the full extent of all laws of both the US and Canada to insure you do not get a chance to cheat anyone ever again. Danny, you are something else. Is this how you operated you construction business as well. If he is not held accountable, he will be free to find another victim on another "Perfect Car" or whatever he over describes and sells.

Crooks are only sorry when they get caught and not a moment before. Show me one criminal who came forward to apologize to the public before they got caught and I will "sugar coat" my comments about Danny the crook.

I can tell you firsthand that the huge plus of this site is getting members to look at cars just like I would do for anyone else. Although I don't think anyone wants me to look at any beaters in my neck of the woods right now.

I have had several members check out mopars for me and even other cars I have been looking at. I bought my last Cuda out of Colorado after ColoMopar looked at it, sent pics and gave me the lowdown. This is truly priceless and I am very thankful, this site rocks!!!

Alan, thanks for clearing things up. You are a stand up guy with how you handled the owner of the Cuda. I wish more people were like you. In any case, Danny knew what he was doing and now has crawled under a rock. I think he now has his eyes closed to this hoping that it will somehow just eventually go away. I don't even think he is following this board for fear of what he will read here. I just hope that I can get the engine fixed and there will be no surprises there. I sure hope it's only a top end problem. If I can get it fixed with no scratches to the engine bay, the car, and with the engine still looking pristine, I'll be happy. If I can get the clutch fixed or even just replace it...and that shouldn't be that be a huge problem.....then I'll be happy. The carb that Danny replaced....I'll send that out to Scott Smith. The seat will be a big issue because I don't know what I can do there. I hope to look back at all of this one day and be happy that I bought the Challenger, but until all of these unknowns are cleared up with the car, this whole incident will be on my mind. Not the good experience that I thought it would be, but I have definitely learned some things from this.

I certainly have learned a lesson here. What's now done is done and some people here and his 1970 Chevelle SS board now know what kind of a person he really is with a total lack of character.

It was a pleasure to meet you and finally to get a look at the new ride. Very good looking car and it should bring you much enjoyment when you get it the way you want. Thanks for the cool refreshments, I had a very nice cruise up and back and noticed I doubled the mileage on the new ride  after getting back to the house. LOL, but I did not get it to keep it in a glass box. Let me know that you find on the rear surround trim. I bet Alan might even be able to clear up our observation.

See you later in the fall, or possibly at the Fall Fling if you go.

I know I won't ever be able to drive my car to meet any of the overseas members here, but once finished I really hope to be able to do this kinda thing with fellow e-body owners here in Oz.

Yep, in this situation, like Alan said, anyone willing to accept money should man -up and make reparations if things are contentious.

that said, I didn't quite just need new rings and a refreshed fuel system on the T/A as implied, but was prepared for a lotta work, so I won't complain
