Shaved Kit and Lock on Interior Side
« on: March 26, 2015 - 07:48:07 PM »
I have a 1972 Cuda, E-Body, the door hardware has been shaved. I have installed solenoids and poppers. I left the lock attached to the interior handle, however, if the lock is in the lock position when the door is closed, the remote will not release the latch. At first, I was going to leave the rod off for the lock, but then I got to thinking, what if someone hits the open button on the remote, the doors would come open while moving.  How has someone else handled this issue.

Put a lock actuator under the armrest to unlock the doors. Setup remote to unlock doors, ch3 to open drivers door. You can get an actuator for the drivers side that has extra contacts in it to turn on or off a relay to disable the door solenoids when locked. Setup alarm to lock your doors with ignition "on" so door popper circuit is off while driving. A 70 latch does not lock with door open, so if you use one, it will keep you from being locked out if you get out with the car running.

Search for my 72 Cuda thread in this section. I show how to put the door lock actuators in.

Hi Rob, I want to thank you for the information on how to fix my lock problem. I'm going with your suggestion. I do have a question about wiring since I don't do a lot of it. The actuator is two wire, hot and ground. The relay is a five wire. Where do the wires on the relay connect.

Thanks again, George

The wire being grounded is what determines lock or unlock. Your alarm can be set to lock the doors when you turn on the key. Most alarms come set to toggle the ground pulse when arming or disarming.

Thanks Rob, just trying to insure I understand so that I order enough parts to wire both door locks and the alarm.

If you look at my thread, I show the 10 relays, sockets and wire that I use. 10 relays for a little over $10.  Re-pin the relays and they are ready to mount. I use the same relays to drive my power window motors.
