New Rear Spring bushings
« on: March 29, 2015 - 09:46:17 AM »
Well that was fun!

I figured while I had my rear springs out having them de-arched I should probably replace the front and rear bushings.  My guess is they are original.  I already had new poly bushings as part of a kit I bought a few years ago when I redid the front suspension

Of course when I pulled the springs the bushings were all toast (one of the rear bushing was almost split totally in half.

Look at the instructions for the front spring eye...must remove outer sleeve to install poly bushings...ok, how hard can that be.

I drilled out the rubber to remove the bushing...that was easy.

Of course the outer sleeve did not want to move.  I tried folding over the edges is a few spots, but they were not moving.

I beat on them with a BFH for a while, but once I tried to split them down the middle using a 3/8 cold chisel, they almost popped right out.  I used the parting line in the spring eye as a starting point / guide.

I tried to slice the sleeves with a sawzall, but I was too afraid I would damage the spring doing that.

Cant wait to put is all back together and see if it rides any better and how it looks lowered down (I took almost 5 inches out of the springs).

So the new poly bushing just go into the spring itself with no outer sleeve ?

I have a customer who supplied these poly bushings, but I haven't looked into how they're installed yet...

Got the new bushings installed and the springs back on the car last night.  Still need to torque everything down.

I am very excited to see how much lower the car sits.

I tell you man that lube they give you for the poly bushings is some crazy stiucky stuff!!!  I got it all over my hands, what a mess!

Make sure you torque the front bushings with the weight on them :2cents:

I don't think it matters when you torque the front with poly, it doesn't have a pressed in non rotating bush lime factory. The poly bush will just rotate in the eye when you drop the car, a rubber one won't. :2cents:
